Algorithm Development Engineer - Virtual Calibration

About the Position

You will have the opportunity to be a part of the Innovation Technology team, supporting the technical development of Tire Information Systems, both for passenger car and truck applications. More specifically, you will be responsible for adopting and/or developing virtual processes based on both physics-based tools (e.g., FEA) and data-driven simulation tools (e.g., Machine Learning) for the Tire Information Systems development.

 

Resposibilities: 

  • Develop  virtual tools and processes to calibrate tire property estimation algorithms.
  • Be responsible for conducting verification and validation for the adopted/developed tools and processes.
  • Work with cross-functional teams to integrate the virtual tools and processes into the algorithm development process.
  • Support data collection activities to validate and improve the virtual tools.
  • Represent the Tire Intelligence team in selected data-driven and virtual tire development initiatives and projects.
  • Prepare project reports, updates, and communication with internal stakeholders.
  • Be responsible for writing project reports documenting the instructions and the detailed processes.

 

Required Education & Experince: 

  • BS in Mechanical Engineering, Applied Mechanics, or similar.
    • MS/Ph.D. preferred.
  • 4+ years of FEA/structural analysis experience. 
    • Knowledge of structural mechanics/dynamics, mechanical behavior of materials, and computational methods.

 

Skills:

  • Finite Element Analysis (FEA) experience- Abaqus, ANSYS, NASTRAN, including physics-based material constitutive modeling.
  • Proficiency in advanced postprocessing and analysis of FEA output in conjunction with scripting languages such as Python & Matlab.
  • Working knowledge of 3D CAD (Solidworks, CATIA V5, Inventor/Fusion 360, etc.) software and their applications.
  • Comfortable in both Windows & Linux environments. 
    • Experience with high-performance cluster computing is preferred.
  • Experience with physical tire models (CD-tire, F-tire) is an asset.
  • Strong communication & presentation skills, especially in a team setting, when discussing product requirements or sharing results.
  • Strong team player who is self-motivated and results-oriented in a fast past innovation environment.
  • Ability to form robust working relationships with associates and customers.
