Program Description

The Goodyear Tire & Rubber Company, headquartered in Akron, Ohio, is looking for individuals with strong STEM backgrounds to strengthen its global technology depth and play an integral role in the current and future success of the organization. The Global Technology Co-op/Intern Program provides students with practical work experience in one of many diverse areas of Global Technology.  The program allows the organization to build a pipeline of candidates for future permanent openings, and the students gain a better understanding of the various job opportunities available throughout Goodyear.

Students have potential to work part-time (16-20 hours) during the school year and then full-time during the summer.  Projects will be designed to include a high level of  hands-on work to give students the opportunity to work with a variety of testing equipment while developing an in depth understanding of materials and their physical properties. Students will work with a variety of novel rubber compounds and reinforcements being developed for use in a variety of new products ranging from passenger car, commercial truck, off road, race and aircraft tires.      

Ideally, many of the Global Technology co-ops and interns become permanent Goodyear associates after graduation.

Requirements

Currently pursuing a bachelor’s degree in the following areas: Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Material Science, Electrical Engineering, Applied Mathematics or Physics.

  • Minimum 3.0 overall GPA required
  • Incoming freshman level or higher
  • Experience working in team settings
  • Strong analysis and problem solving skills
  • Comfortable working with a variety of equipment
  • Strong computer skills especially Excel
  • Knowledge of statistics helpful
  • Prior engineering co-op/internship experience helpful
  • Demonstrated leadership and strong communication skills
