About the Position
Are you interested in an exciting opportunity to work on revolutionary tire technology? The Non-Pneumatic Tire (NPT) group at the Goodyear Innovation Center in Akron, Ohio does just that. We are looking for outstanding Mechanical Engineering students to join our hands-on team. The NPT group covers all facets of product development, including design, prototyping, experimentation and manufacturing. We are a cross-functional group including Mechanical and Systems Engineering, Manufacturing as well as Material and Reinforcement Science. Internships will be active positions helping to advance our capabilities in the Design and Analysis of the product as well as participate in the Prototyping and Testing of NPTs both in the lab and on the test track.
Primary Responsibilities
- Structural characterization of materials and composites used in novel tire architectures
- Assist in building of prototypes and documenting prototype build processes
- Evaluation of prototypes and analyze & document test results.
- Use analytical and computational tools and synthesize results for product design
- Identify and plan product testing requirements through engineering principles as well as through canvassing organizational knowledge and design guidelines
- Perform basic data analysis and graphing using Excel, MATLAB or similar tools.
Useful Skills and Abilities
- Applied or experimental Mechanics of materials
- Test method development, structural characterization, fatigue of materials
- Reporting (communication skills both oral and writing)
- physical prototyping of design concepts
- Statistical design & analysis of experimental data
Requirements
Currently pursuing a bachelor’s degree in the following areas: Mechanical Engineering or any other relevent degree
- Minimum 3.0 overall GPA required
- Incoming freshman level preferred
- Demonstrated leadership and strong communication skills
