Co-op/Intern Program Description:

The Innovation Center Manufacturing*Akron (ICM*A) team is looking for talented future leaders to help drive continued operational improvements in our plant.  The co-op/intern program helps develop those leaders by providing a fast-paced, hands-on, and varied learning experience. 


The Plant Industrial Engineering Co-op/Intern position provides the opportunity for either 2 summer internships or 3 co-op rotations in ICM*A along with the potential for part-time work during school terms. The student will gain experience working with our plant Industrial Engineer and Production teams along with the Regional Industrial Engineering Team across all the tire manufacturing processes in ICM*A. The student will work on data gathering and validation, production performance monitoring tools, Overall Equipment Effectiveness analysis, and Plant Optimization improvement projects in various operations areas.  Work will be varied and could include materials flow, scheduling, IT tools, workload leveling, standard work development, downtime analysis, and process improvement activities.  Projects will require collaboration with various other functions in Goodyear including our Tire Technology, Regional Quality, Regional Operations and Global Engineering teams.  The ICM*A Plant IE co-op/intern program provides the student the unique opportunity to learn the role of a plant Industrial Engineer and position themselves to hire into the plant full time upon graduation.


What to Expect:

  • The co-op/intern will report directly to the plant Controller and be mentored by the Regional IE for Consumer Tires
  • Project plans with milestones and deliverables will be presented at the beginning of each rotation
  • Overall Equipment Effectiveness analysis and Plant Optimization overview training will be provided
  • The co-op/intern will demonstrate their creativity and tools application to solve problems
  • The co-op/intern will participate, communicate, and collaborate with various teams within Goodyear to meet project goals
  • The co-op/intern will obtain manufacturing & process engineering experience




  • Minimum 3.0 overall GPA required
  • Currently pursuing a bachelor’s degree in the following areas: Industrial and Systems Engineering, Industrial and Manufacturing Systems Engineering, Industrial Engineering and Management or related
  • Must have completed first year of classes (incoming sophomore level or higher)
  • Demonstrated leadership and strong communication skills  
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced manufacturing environment
