Responsibilities:


Reporting to the Associate General Counsel Litigation, the Legal Counsel – Litigation/Global Operations & Technology will manage/coordinate various litigation matters (including product liability claims, class actions, toxic torts, commercial disputes and government investigations). This position will provide litigation and risk avoidance counseling to the various business units. The incumbent will select/manage outside counsel for various litigation matters. He/She will assess and value product liability claims and lawsuits. This role will provide legal advice and training to the Global Operations and Technology organization. This associate will provide legal counsel regarding regulatory issues affecting tires. In addition, the Legal Counsel - Litigation/Global Operations and Technology will consult on product quality issues.  


The responsibilities of the Legal Counsel Litigation/GOT will include, but not be limited to the following:


•    Manage/Coordinate various litigation matters (including product liability claims, class actions, toxic torts, commercial disputes and government investigations). 
•    Responsible for managing outside counsel and valuing/assessing product liability claims and lawsuits.
•    Provide legal advice to the Global Operations and Technology organization (including providing legal counsel regarding regulatory issues affecting tires and consulting on product quality issues).
•    Conduct training for Global Operations and Technology organization.

 

Professional Experience & Competencies:


•    Experienced attorney with the requisite legal background and interpersonal skills to function successfully in a highly visible and challenging position 
•    5 or more years of experience in a major law firm handling complex commercial litigation with particular experience in products liability and class actions and/or similar in-house experience
•    Prior experience working with NHTSA or on NHTSA-related issues – Desired
•    Strong analytical, problem-solving and negotiation skills 
•    Ability to develop business-oriented and cost-efficient solutions
•    Excellent communication skills (written and verbal) - With the ability to interact and establish trusted partnerships with executive/senior management 
•    Sound judgment and consensus-building skills  


Education:


•    Law degree from an accredited United States (U.S.) law school and a member of the Bar in good standing
