Program Description

This fellowship offers one new University of Akron Law School graduate the opportunity to work as a corporate attorney within the legal department at Goodyear handling a variety of matters relating to current business issues. The fellowship is designed to be a unique, selective experience for a highly-qualified and motivated graduate. The responsibilities of the fellow will be designed in accordance with specific company needs and the successful candidate will have the opportunity to have an inside view of corporate client needs while delivering real results tied to the business strategy. The fellowship term is expected to be twelve months in duration and is not intended to be renewable with the same fellow after that period of time. Goodyear’s legal practice touches almost every area of law, including but not limited to: securities and financing, real estate, contracts, litigation, environmental, employment and intellectual property. 


Duties may include:

  • Working with company attorneys and business partners as well as outside counsel on various corporate transactions and business issues
  • Researching legal and factual issues, drafting and reviewing contracts, counseling, and litigation assistance
  • Supporting the work of Goodyear’s attorneys and business partners
  • Interacting with senior leaders in the organization
  • Participating in project teams and other relevant meetings as required



  • Fellows must be graduates of the University of Akron School of Law  with high academic achievements (top 25% of their class) and a strong interest in the corporate legal and business environment.


The successful fellow should demonstrate the following competencies:

  • Team building – ability to be an exceptional team member supporting others in the legal department as well as business partners; this includes (a) having the ability to listen and absorb others’ input and feedback, (b) being open, candid and positive, and (c) adapting to continuous improvement opportunities
  • Problem solving – ability to creatively assess and diagnose issues, and propose solutions as well as action plans required to attain the desired results
  • Effective communications – ability to clearly and succinctly articulate facts and express points of view both in verbal and written format
