About the Position:

Global Manufacturing and Engineering Process teams are responsible for designing, developing, implementing, and standardizing effective engineering/technical solutions for manufacturing systems, equipment and related automation that ensure maximum efficiency of Goodyear’s manufacturing processes for our plants globally.

This position is with the Curing Process Team that has responsibility for the equipment that is used to vulcanize and mold tires.  The Curing Team is responsible for specifications, controls development, commissioning, and plant support for equipment.  The electrical / computer engineer will have direct responsibility for global proliferation and ongoing development of the data collection systems used in the Curing operations.

 

Responsibilities: 

  • Provide equipment and process expertise on Curing team’s data management systems
  • Support Capital Projects globally for installation, and commissioning of equipment
  • Develop and implement supervisory control and data acquisition solutions
  • Provide remote support for plant machine and supervisory level controls, occasionally in off hours
  • Assemble documentation and specifications for data acquisition systems, including necessary hardware, software, and applications, for capital equipment installations and upgrades
  • Coordinate contractors and/or vendors and plant specialists for commissioning of systems.
  • Participate in project scope development (internal & external) from planning through commissioning
  • Process optimization, improvements, and upgrades to existing systems.
  • Research and development of new systems and methods to replace aging or obsolete applications
  • Troubleshoot, determine root cause, and resolve software/system performance issues.
  • Work with other engineers to develop, maintain and implement global standards
  • Opportunities to expand knowledge - learning about or designing programmable logic, human/machine interfaces for machinery control, safety systems, etc., though not initially required for this position

 

Required Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Science / Technology / Engineering / Math.
  • PE, PMP or similar engineering / project management certifications, MS, PhD in related engineering field desired
  • 4+ years’ experience required.
  • Continual learner as evidence by application of knowledge, gained through additional education/experience/training.
  • Experience in cross functional assignment or project.
  • Participate on cross-functional assignments, projects, and other divisional and planned initiatives for improved self-development. 


Skills and Abilities

  • Experience in a cross-functional assignment or projects
  • Ethernet IP and remote I/O systems knowledge
  • SQL and C# programming skills
  • XML and Java skills
  • OPC-DA and OPC-UA client development experience
  • TCP/UDP socket communication experience
  • Knowledge of manufacturing enterprise design patterns and coding
  • Knowledge of Message Oriented Middleware (Apache ActiveMQ/Camel/Karaf)
  • Linux, Windows OS knowledge
  • Experience with specifications, procurement, and installation of software/hardware systems
  • Demonstrate and instill positive attitudes on peers. Demonstrate ability to plan and lead meetings at work group level. Initiate open dialogue. Offer constructive disagreement.  Offer alternative solutions.  Provide compelling technical direction and logical conclusions.

  • Excellent communication (verbal and written) and technical documentation skills required.
  • Willingness to travel 10-20% (on a project-by-project basis) domestically and internationally, and working occasional off-hours is required.
