Position Description:

The Oracle Database Systems Architect provides technical support to internal IT and Goodyear application users for a variety of databases, primarily Oracle, however some support of MS SQL Server, Sybase ASE and PostgreSQL, Azure and AWS would be nice to have. This support includes infrastructure operating system support, i.e. disk layout, server planning, license management, user administration, performance tuning, database monitoring, database security settings, memory and capacity evaluations. The ideal candidate will have UNIX/Linux, including some scripting, and automation experience.  Work in this area involves the use of database software packages to ensure data integrity, consistency, security, recovery, database space management, and database schema management. 

Principal Responsibilities:

• Will be required to support enterprise-wide, mission-critical databases with little support or assistance.
• Will be involved with the planning, installation, implementation and configuration of company databases. Incumbent will be required to write necessary procedures and develop standards that will make these systems available 24*7. Will be required to participate in 24*7 on call support of company databases.
• Will analyze and participate in the security and data integrity controls for all of the computerized database resources. Will participate in the analysis and design function for new and existing systems to ensure adherence to technical standards, data standards and integration with other applications. Will be involved with the planning and implementation of database backup and recovery procedures.
• Will work across functional support areas to tune databases for optimal performance. Will be required to translate business requirements into technical requirements and assist other team members in implementing the solution.
• May evaluate enterprise wide database infrastructure and develop detailed analysis reports and recommendations for those database systems. May be involved with the planning, design and implementation of databases on a variety of platforms. May participate in the planning, acquisition, and implementation of systems and application software.

Required Experience and Education:

• Bachelors’ degree in Business Administration, Computer Science, Engineering, MIS, Technology
• 5+  years of experience in Information Technology, with a minimum of  2 years of experience in Oracle database systems.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

• Knowledge of operating systems, client/server architectures and standards.
• Knowledge of all currently used database applications.
• Knowledge of data modeling, logical and physical database design and implementation.
• Good understanding of middleware standards, networking technology and protocols.
• Advanced troubleshooting skills.
