About the Position

The Payroll Accountant, is responsible for ensuring the accuracy, fidelity and timeliness of payroll funding, and gross-to-net payroll accounting for Goodyear North America weekly, bi-weekly, semi-monthly, monthly and off-cycle payrolls.  This includes research, analysis, validation and preparing artifacts that support payroll and payroll tax funding, and payroll expenditure and accrual posting to the general ledger.  Additionally, the Payroll Accountant performs monthly payroll accounting reconciliations to provide reasonable assurance that finance and accounting management controls are effective, and that payroll accounting is accurate for consolidated financial statements and internal and external financial reporting.  Other duties include management of payroll tax notices, conducting payroll accounting research and documenting point papers, and integration of process change and technology to support continuous improvement, standardization and optimization.

 

Primary Responsibilities

  • Receive and process requests for payroll funding.  Monitor Payroll Fund mailbox for activity; ensure all automated processes are operating and creating expected results
  • Process federal and state payroll tax notices received: organize and save electronic copies, forward to third party administrator and file hard copies.  Monitor recording, tracking and resolution of tax notices by third party administrator. Research payroll tax variances and identify proper accounting treatments
  • Research, document and post payroll related journal entries to the general ledger
  • Perform post payroll and end of month accounting reconciliations.  Support requests for financial reporting.  Support design and testing of management controls.
  • Research, analyze, ideate, design and implement process change and integrate technology to support continuous improvement, standardization and optimization.

 

Required Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s Degree in accounting, finance or other business field required.
  • CPA or other advanced Degree desired
  • 2 years of payroll, accounting, auditing and/or financial analysis experience (preferably in a large corporate or manufacturing organization or public accounting firm).

 

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Demonstrated knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite, SAP (or other GL system) and Workday (or other payroll system)
  • Demonstrated ability to research accounting transactions and document support for journal vouchers/entries for GL adjustment
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail; able to multi-task, deliver results and meet deadlines
  • Understanding of GAAP, accounting for complex transactions, and familiarity with internal/management controls
  • Good presentation and communication skills, both verbal and written; well-developed collaboration and partnership skills
