Regional Controller

 

Located at Global Headquarters in Akron, OH the Regional Controller is the principal accounting executive for the business unit with overall responsibility for the monthly financial statement close, financial reporting, finance systems and maintaining effective internal controls (in compliance with Sarbanes-Oxley [SOX]). The Regional Controller is also responsible for partnering with finance leadership and to ensure finance goals and objectives are achieved and to develop people resources.

 

Job Duties / Responsibilities may include, but are not limited to:

 

  • Ensure that the region reports in financial results fairly stated, timely reported, and in compliance with accounting standards issues by the FASB and the SEC.
  • Keep abreast of new U.S. accounting standards and SEC reporting requirements.
  • Implement corporate accounting policies and procedures to ensure compliance.
  • Ensure internal controls, disclosure controls, and procedures are properly assessed and evaluated by management as mandated by the Sarbanes-Oxley Act of 2002
  • Ensure that internal control deficiencies or gaps identified through SOX testing or internal audit testing are timely remediated, retested, and documented.
  • Develop strong working relationships with the Finance Directors within the region as well as the region's senior leadership team.
  • Prepare and manage annual operating plan for regional office expenses including working with regional management team to manage the plan.
  • Oversight of the allocation of the regional expenses to the locations including non-legal entity transactions coming into and going out of the region.
  • Provide financial and technical accounting advice on complex business transactions to ensure compliance with external and internal reporting requirements.
  • Manage all human resources aspects of the position including one on one conversations with direct reports, semi-annual formal performance reviews, succession planning for this position and for all direct reports and overseeing the recruitment process for any open direct report position.
  • Responsible for the budget of the regional office location the proper allocation of regional costs to the country locations as well as full ownership of compensation and benefits for the regional office.

 

KEY EXPERIENCE

 

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, CPA required.
    • MBA or advanced degree preferred.
  • 10+ Years experience in an accounting environment.
  • Minimum of 6 years of accounting and auditing experience in a large, global independent registered public accounting firm.
  • US GAAP experience.
  • Minimum of 4 years of finance/accounting and tax experience in a large multinational industrial manufacturing company.

  • Experience in dealing within multiple domestic and international locations.
  • Strong analytical skills.
  • Ability to understand complex data and issues with a demonstrated ability to think outside the box.
  • Ability to apply current U.S. accounting standards to various regional transactions, seeking assistance and approval from Corporate Controllers’ office for significant transactions.
  • Ability to analyze and grasp a situation quickly from different perspectives and create well-reasoned solutions.
  • Innately comfortable with complexity and ambiguity.
  • Through effective communication skills, able to present ideas and information clearly and persuasively to a wide range of audiences.
  • Develops team members through coaching and feedback on results. Shares personal knowledge and experiences and moves decisively on performance problem.
  • Demonstrates a high level of understanding of all key aspects of Business Operations.
  • Demonstrates a global mindset with a proven ability to not only respect and manage the market and cultural nuances, but also capable of identifying and leveraging global synergies in delivering effective business solutions.
