Primary Purpose:

The HR Specialist 2 – Retail acts as business partner and consultant in the COO HR organization. 

 

They will collaborate with HR, Store and District Leadership to provide support for key Human Resource and business imperatives focusing on Talent, Leadership, Organization and Culture. This role will have responsibilities around compliance, associate relations, performance management, merit planning, affirmative action, staffing, safety, training, engagement and partnership with our payroll and benefit providers. 

 

The position will also be responsible for the design and implementation of significant projects that will add strategic value to the entire COO organization.  They will play a key role in mentoring and helping direct work of team members in strong partnership with the HR Manager (while continuing to be a strong individual contributor in the HR Specialist function). 

 

The HR Specialist – Retail will have full knowledge of Retail policies and procedures to provide direction to management and associates as needed. The position will be the primary specialist on the application of those policies, including disciplinary outcomes.             

 

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Act as a business partner to Store and District management teams on people and organizational issues.  Give direction to managers based on company policy, collective bargaining agreements, applicable laws and best practices.  Partner with key Retail roles to analyze talent strategies/staffing levels for optimal productivity for the business. Drive succession planning process for key talent pools.  Partner with the Learning and Development team to align training and development resources/programs and plans to ensure ready now successors within the businesses.  Lead key HR projects, such as turnover reduction, onboarding improvement, policy and procedure alignment, and various others depending on changing business needs and object  
  • Manage associate relations with Store and District leadership.  Act as a collaborative partner on people, social, and organizational issues.  Provide direction to managers based on company policy, collective bargaining agreements, applicable laws and past practices. This may include employee complaint investigations with appropriate follow-up through collaboration with Goodyear's legal counsel. Provide careful review and approval of disciplinary actions and terminations and make recommendations for corrective action based on past practice and company policy.   This may require on-site visits to store locations to maintain employee relations, audit standards and policy compliance.              
  • Partner with COO Compliance Specialist to maintain internal and external standards.  Including but not limited to EEOC, Affirmative Action, OSHA, Business Ethics, corporate HR initiatives and processes and employment/labor laws.  This also includes review and approval of transfers, promotions and pay increases.  Assist the HR Manager on ensuring team assignments stay on track and are accomplished with quality results.           
  • Facilitate performance management processes across the Retail Stores and Districts to recognize high potential associates and address low performers.  Drive process compliance, ensure proper associate feedback to progress toward a high performance organizational culture.  Help identify and coach talent to align to HR department goals and Goodyear values.                           

 

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's Degree     
  • Master's Degree preferred
  • 5-8 years’ experience as an HR Professional, required. PHR/SHRM Certification, preferred.
  • Experience within retail, mulit-unit or multi-state organization, preferred
  • Proven experience with Microsoft Office suite
  • Experience wih both union and non-union environments, preferred
  • Experience with investigation, analyzing and solving complex associate relations issues
  • Ability to work with and maintain confidential information
