About the Position 
This is an exciting opportunity for a dynamic individual to join our global Data Science and Analytics department. Since its inception, our project portfolio has continuously expanded to include projects in areas of business, tire manufacturing, and technology. Our associates come from a broad range of backgrounds: Computer Science, Mechanical, Electrical, Chemical, and Industrial Engineering; Mathematics, Statistics, Cognitive Linguistics, Astrophysics, Entomology/Biology, and Data Science. This diverse expertise comes together to develop innovative tools and methods for simulating, modeling and analyzing complex processes throughout our company. You will help us building the bridges between our complex and varied data, further develop the underlying cloud infrastructure and processes, and help data scientists in development of data driven solutions from inception to deployment. 
 

Primary Responsibilities
Our infrastructure is rapidly evolving on Amazon Web Services. You will have opportunities to: 

  • Lead efforts in the space of Cloud Computing for Data Science applications and experiments to create production ready digital solutions. Create and implement a shared vision for stable, long term cloud platform and process solutions. You will enable implementation of this vision as a fundamental part of the data science workflow.
  • Contribute to the design and implementation of cloud-based applications including web-based user interfaces, back-end APIs and services, serverless functions, (non)relational databases, and machine learning applications.
  • Work closely with other data scientists to scale up platforms for data solutions across diverse business and manufacturing applications. 
  • Advise on best practices with respect to cloud architecture, system design and software engineering; share and present your ideas and successes with IT professionals and business stakeholders throughout the company

 

Required Education and Experience 

  • B.Sc. in Computer Science, Computer Engineering with specialization in Software Engineering, Cloud Computing, System Architecture or similar technical field
    • M.Sc. in Computer Science or similar technical field, desired 
  • 5+ years of experience in platform development with 2+ years in a cloud environment
    • 5+ years of experience in digital platform development (AWS/Azure/Google Cloud) in combination with certification for a cloud service, desired 
  • Programming Languages: Python, JavaScript, SQL
  • Knowledge of software development and lifecycle tools: Jenkins, GitHub, Docker, Kubernetes
  • Ability to automate and orchestrate the provisioning of application and infrastructure services (e.g. Puppet, Chef, Ansible, Packer and Terraform)
  • Understanding of cloud security concepts (e.g. firewall, proxy, key management, IAM, certificate management)

 

Skills and Abilities                     

  • Experience leading a technical team
  • Experience applying analytical tools and models on complex data sets 
  • Basic understanding of database structure principles
  • Experience with using SQL for extracting data from databases
  • Familiarity with at least 1 programming language (R, Python preferred)
  • Exposure to data visualization tools (Tableau, Cognos, SAP Analytics Cloud, Shiny)
  • Must be self-motivated and able to work both independently and within project teams.
  • Ability to collaborate with data scientists, engineers, product owners, and other development teams to solve problems
  • Ability to effectively communicate with other team members (both in person and via communication media).
  • Good teamwork skills: ability to network across a global organization; ability to convince and lead; active listening skills; ability to prioritize and follow through; ability to communicate and agree on expectations; ability to work in a team environment and deliver results on time. We also value a good sense of humor.
  • Strong communication skills: capable of conveying information concisely to diverse audiences; experience with communicating dynamics of complex systems in a concise and clear manner. Knowledge of foreign languages.
