About the Position 

The Tire & Performance Science division of the Goodyear Rubber & Tire company seeks a highly motivated individual who will be responsible for developing models, methods, and verification of applications in an in-house massively parallel code. This Senior Engineer role will be responsible for

(A) the development, maintenance, and user support of tire performance FEA tools

(B) the coordination, documentation, and maintenance of tire performance tools, and

(C) participating in applied product and fundamental technology tire engineering projects.

The ideal candidate will have a strong passion for technology development with the ability to work effectively independently, as well as in a team environment.


Primary Responsibilities:

  • Develop and support finite element codes with focus on solid mechanics applications for tire performance prediction

  • Support the other tire engineers on the team via training, user support, debugging of design and performance concepts, and any special needs in the tire performance tool

  • Collaborate with the other engineers on the team to identify new or revised tire performance technologies, develop rules regarding those standards and technologies, document and codify such rules into knowledge manuals, and implement those rules, standards and technologies in the tire performance manual.  

  • Participate in the design, development, and industrialization of tire engineering projects (applied and fundamental) which result in new tire products, processes, tools and technologies

  • Work with other departments on the definition and development of the next generation of tire performance tools


Required Education & Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Civil, Aerospace Engineering or related

  • 6+ years of experience with working knowledge of Design Manufacturing principals

  • General graduate knowledge in computational mechanics, including nonlinear finite elements, material models (rubber, shells), and contact mechanics.

  • Use of basic development systems/practices: Git, IDEs, Agile

  • 3+ years as an advanced analyst and/or developer of FEA or Multiphysics code 


Desired Education & Experience:

  • Masters/Ph.D. in Mechanical, Civil, or Aerospace Engineering

  • Work experience of 4 years or more as a developer of FEA or Multiphysics

  • Experience on C++ and parallel computing, preferably distributed memory (MPI)

  • Ability to obtain and maintain a DOE-Q level security clearance


Skills and Abilities

  • Have a strong interest in solving practical FEA and simulation problems. Experience with computational solid mechanics, computational fluid dynamics, heat transfer, multiscale methods

  • Demonstrated ability to solve complex problems and to transfer technology to practical application.

  • Experience working in groups and on multiple projects and working in a Linux environment

  • Excellent communication, interpersonal and motivational skills and experience with other programming languages (bash, python)
