Reporting to the Associate General Counsel, Intellectual Property Law, the Legal Counsel, Intellectual Property will provide competent, practical and timely legal advice and will counsel business managers and technical personnel on all IP-related matters . The role is responsible for minimizing legal and financial liabilities, protecting corporate interests, and preserving corporate assets.


Specific duties and responsibilities of the Legal Counsel, IP will include, but not be limited to the following:


  • US and foreign patent application preparation and prosecution including communicating with and managing outside US and foreign attorneys.
  • Conducting and preparing opinion work, including freedom to operate opinions, validity opinions, and third-party patent infringement opinions.
  • Miscellaneous activities including providing IP compliance training, due diligence regarding M&A transactions, and conducting analysis of IP landscapes.


Professional Experience and Competencies:

  • Minimum (8) years of experience in Intellectual Property law.
  • Admitted to practice before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office.
  • Member in good standing with a State Bar.
  • Solid work ethic and commitment to job completion.
  • Excellent communication skills and demonstrated ability to work as part of a team providing timely, clear, and concise legal advice in order to accomplish the business objectives of the corporation.
  • Self-directed professional with ability to prioritize and manage complex workload, delegating where appropriate to team members and support staff.
  • Strong analytical, problem solving and negotiation skills with an ability to develop business-oriented and cost-efficient solutions.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to establish trusted partnerships with Executive and Senior Management.



  • Juris Doctorate degree from an accredited law school
  • Undergraduate degree In Chemistry or Chemical Engineering
  • Graduate degree in Chemistry or Chemical Engineering is desirable
