About the Position 
This technician role may prepare specimen samples, batches, polymers, composites or other reinforcement or sensor components based on specific laboratory purposes for standardized and non-standardized testing. The associate must be able to follow work instructions and/or test methods and comply with all laboratory safety procedures. The technician not only completes the required testing, he/she must be able to analyze and interpret the data to validate the results obtained and move the process forward. In addition, this position requires specific testing tool indepth functional knowledge and the ability to troubleshoot, perform routine test calibration and maintain all laboratory/process equipment. As a senior technician, this individual serves as a mentor to less-experienced technicians and provides technical support as needed. This position may be in a facility that requires shift work, including evenings, nights and weekends. 

 

Primary Responsibilities

  • Prepare samples, batches, polymers, composites or other reinforcement or sensor components on lab scale for standardized and non-standardized testing
  • Diagnose, troubleshoot, maintain, calibrate and clean laboratory and process equipment
  • Complete required testing, analyze and interpret data to validate results and move process forward and act as a resource to instruct/guide other technicians on specific requirements
  • Provide technical guidance and support product research technicians 
  • Structural characterization of materials and composites used in novel tire architectures    
  • Assist in building of prototypes and documenting prototype build processes
  • Evaluation of prototypes and analyze & document test results.     
  • Physical prototyping of design concept

 

Required Education and Experience 

  • High School Diploma/GED is required
    •  Associate degree in a STEM-related field is preferred
  • 4+ years as lab tech OR 1+ years as lab tech WITH an Associate Degree in relevant STEM field 

 

Skills and Abilities

  • Teamwork and collaboration skills Fluent in Office tools to communicate and perform statistical numerical comparisons (Outlook,Word, Excel, Minitab or other SPC/statistical tool)
  • Strong mechanical aptitude
  • Ability to follow explicit, documented procedures
  • Strong communication and organizational skills
  • Willingness to train, teach and mentor less-experienced associates
