Primary Purpose

 

The Advanced Engineering Group of Race Tires seeks a dynamic associate to drive innovation in high-performance racing technology. This role involves pushing the boundaries of race tire performance by interpreting complex data and making informed design decisions.

 

The ideal candidate is a self-starter with a blend of technical expertise and creativity, ready to take ownership and drive projects forward with minimal oversight.    

 

 

Primary Responsibilities

 

  • Collaborating with top-tier racing organizations like NASCAR and NHRA.
  • Traveling to and engaging with racing and test events.
  • Developing cutting-edge simulation, modeling, and FEA programs.
  • Enhancing tire durability and creating sophisticated wear models.
  • Developing new meshing and geometry tools and methods.
  • Generating meshes and models for solid mechanics and CFD applications.
  • Troubleshoot geometry and mesh issues, develop new techniques, and to bring new technology to Goodyear.
  • Developing DOEs, running models/simulations, analyzing results, and reporting the impact back to the design team.

 

 

Required Education and Experience

 

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering (or similar), is required
  • Master's degree in the context of numerical simulation or an industrial equivalent expertise highly desirable.
  • 2+ years of engineering experience in a research laboratory (university), automotive industry or race team.
  • Experience with running modeling and simulation.
  • MATLAB programming experience for data analysis, visualization, modeling, and programming in engineering and scientific fields
  • Tread and Cavity and/or design experience would be a benefit.

 

 

Desired Knowledge and Skills

 

  • Advanced mesh generation techniques for 2D and 3D geometry.
  • Experience with CUBIT is a plus. Solid modeling, preparation of 2D and 3D geometry for meshing. CATIA V5 experience desired.
  • Parametric geometry creation and mesh generation is a plus.
  • Basic knowledge of solid mechanics and FEA solvers. CFD is a plus.
  • PLM software applications. SmartTeam experience a plus.
  • Code development using any or all of C, C++, Fortran, Python, Linux shell scripting, Qt. Scientific code development and software version control.
