The Sr. Manager Domestic Taxes leads, develops and implements US state and local income and indirect tax strategies to minimize United States state and local income and indirect taxes including sales and use taxes, real and personal property taxes, waste tire taxes and battery fees, etc. This position also leads the effort to ensure compliance and timely reporting of various US state and local incentives. This also includes playing an important role in negotiating various state and local incentives. This position is also responsible for Canada GST/HST taxes for Goodyear entities. 

 

The Sr. Manager Domestic Taxes  additionally manages all external taxing authorities' audit activities in US state and local income and indirect tax areas to achieve favorable results for Goodyear. This role ensures U.S. state and local income tax, and indirect tax expense are properly determined and reported in accordance with U.S. general accepted accounting principles (GAAP).

 

This position is responsible for leading strategic efforts in all tax technology related areas including automation and process improvement to help drive efficiencies and stay ahead or up-to-date with various data driven reporting compliance requirements in various jurisdictions.

 

Job Duties / Responsibilities may include, but are not limited to:

 

Tax planning and accounting responsibilities for US state and local income taxes:
Lead the effort to use proper planning to minimize US state and local income tax liabilities;
Ensure the proper accounting and reporting of US state and local income tax positions in accordance with US GAAP.
 
Lead U.S. state and local income Tax Compliance:
Ensure timely/accurate compliance with required U.S. state and local income tax filings for all jurisdictions
Manage and lead various state income tax audits to achieve most favorable results for Goodyear.

 

Lead U.S. state and local sales and use tax, real and personal property taxes and other indirect taxes and Canada GST/HST areas:
Working with 3rd party service provider to ensure timely and accurate reporting of the above indirect taxes;
Manage and lead various audits to achieve the most favorable outcome for Goodyear
Manage the accounting of these taxes to ensure proper reporting in accordance with U.S. GAAP

 

Lead tax department's strategic initiative related to process improvement and automation to improve efficiencies:

Work with different tax work streams to identify opportunities for tax technology;
Proactively look for optimal solutions via collaboration with Goodyear IT team or external service providers;
Work collaboratively with various tax teams within Goodyear for implementation and continuous improvements.

 

Other:
Lead the effort for U.S. state and local incentives compliance and collaborate with law department and business on incentives negotiation;
Work collaboratively with the law department and outside service provider for compliance with annual reports and business license renewals for all U.S. jurisdictions.
Ensure SOX compliance in state and local and indirect tax area.

 

KEY EXPERIENCE

 

Bachelors Degree in Accounting or Finance.
Masters degree in Accounting or Finance or CPA preferred.
10+ years  encompassing:
Comprehensive state and local income tax compliance and tax accounting experience with large multi-national corporation or public accounting firms.
Extensive knowledge of U.S, sales and use tax and other indirect taxes.
Experience in tax technologies.
Experience working in a team environment (drawing upon collective ideas to develop meaningful strategies and plans).
