About the Position 
Are you interested in an exciting opportunity to help drive data driven business strategies for a large, global manufacturing company?  
The staff data scientist is part of the global Data Science & Analytics team.  The team’s project portfolio includes data analytics for manufacturing, business, marketing, and tire performance. Associates come from a broad range of backgrounds and collaborate to develop new ways to analyze and model complex processes using the data available throughout the company and elsewhere.

Due to the continuously expanding area of applications of team capabilities, there are ample opportunities for team members to assume leadership roles within current projects, lead the development of new exciting capabilities as well as explore career opportunities across many Goodyear divisions

 

Primary Responsibilities

We think you’ll be excited about having opportunities to:

  • Develop an understanding of the business, technology, manufacturing processes, and data science related topics such as data systems (data sources, data gathering, storing) and business analytics (business reporting procedures & KPIs).
  • Independently perform data mining tasks (including data exploration, data cleaning, factor generation/selection, and data visualization) to support large scale Data Science initiatives as a part of a global analytics team.
  • In addition to data exploration, transformation and visualization, the associate will independently conduct statistical analysis, develop basic data models, and perform some elements of more complex business system modeling simulations.
     

Required Education and Experience 

  • PhD in Data Science (or related field) OR Master's Degree in Data Science (or related field) & 3+ years experience, required. 
  • Practical experience in:
    • Data analytics
    • Business analytics 
    • Discrete event simulations
    • Operations research
       

Skills and Abilities

  • Applied Mathematics (Linear algebra, graph theory, optimization, stochastic and dynamic programming).
  • Advanced Statistics (Bayesian inference, uncertainty quantification).
  • Computer Science (Machine learning, data architecture, data management, programming, big data & cloud technologies).
  • Demonstrated leadership skills, good communication, and technical writing skills.
  • Ability to work in a team environment in a project matrix organization.
