Primary Purpose

 

The Goodyear Tire & Rubber Company currently has an opening in the Global Materials Science organization for a Staff Engineer, on the Compound Processing Technology team, at its corporate Headquarters Innovation Center in Akron, Ohio. 

 

The objective for this exciting position is to plan and conduct hands-on research uncovering scientific fundamentals of rubber compound processing and then directly apply the results in practical processes at the production scale. Key technologies include compound mixing, extrusion, calendaring, and tire curing.

 

The Compound Processing Technology team is made up of individuals with processing expertise who are responsible to conduct fundamental research, coordinate knowledge management, and develop and implement standards with respect to compound processing, globally.  Cross-functional collaboration with other teams and departments is critical in project execution, working together with teammates in Luxembourg, as well as Quality, Engineering, Product Lifecycle Optimization, Compound Development, and Manufacturing.

 

Some travel may be required (~15%), when conducting experiments at plant-scale or assisting in implementation of new process or material technology.

  • Lead implementation of new technology with current department
  • Contribute to manufacture of quality products and processes
  • Develop and define project goals to meet specific business needs
  • Translate product needs to experimental data or design parameters
  • Work in a team environment towards bringing new product technologies to market

 

 

 

Required Education and Experience

 

  • Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field, required
  • Master’s or PhD Degree in a relevant field ia advantageous
  • 3+ years’ experience in related field

 

 

 

Desired Knowledge and Skills

 

  • Practical understanding of science and technology in the appropriate discipline
  • Proficiency in statistical design and analysis; cause and effect analysis and risk analysis
  • Ability to carry out assignments in a logical fashion using existing technology and standardized method
  • Basic organization, communication, and experimentation skills
