About the Position 
 

The Tire Industry Project (TIP) is a CEO led initiative of 10 tire manufacturers operating under the World Business Council for Sustainable Development (WBCSD).  
TIP provides a forum and platform on industry-wide sustainability issues to undertake innovative leading initiatives and research.  
This position within the Global Material Science Division requires a highly motivated, experienced and technically skilled associate with the primary purpose of representing Goodyear as a TIP co-chair for the Materials & Chemical (M&C) and the End-of-Life Tire (ELT) Working Groups. The M&C work identifies and monitors tire M&C substances of potential concern, identifies gaps, and proposes/executes scientific studies to fill the gaps to address sustainability concerns.  
The ELT work consists of 
1) establishing stakeholder dialogues across the ELT value chain to promote best practices (utilization of TIP Toolkit) for countries that do not have efficient ELT management systems, 
2) develop, implement and promote a digital platform and governance to exchange information among the stakeholders, and 
3) strengthen ELT data collection and metrics.  Secondary responsibilities requires serving as a representative for other organizations that are addressing M&C and ELT related sustainability issues.
Strong communication and leadership skills are essential for this position with the purpose to drive internal alignment and to communicate Goodyear's position for M&C and ELT initiatives both inside and outside the company as part of the overall company sustainability strategy.  Due to the nature of the work, 15-25% of the employee's time is needed to attend TIP and other organizational meetings requiring international and domestic travel.  
 

Primary Responsibilities

  • M&C and ELT Working Group Co-Chair Liaison: 

    • As Goodyear's liaison respresentative, co-chair the M&C and ELT projects as defined in the 2 year TIP budget cycle.  

    • Responsibilities include developing statements of work, consultant – search, selection and management, developing project budget & timelines, presenting progress updates, report development, leading WGs during meetings, and developing the WG communication project message in conjunction with the TIP Communication WG.     

  • Other Organizational M&C and ELT Liaison Work:

    • As needed, serve as committee member on other organizations for M&C and ELT related work being done by the tire industry.  

    • Overall responsibilities include providing 1) technical support and analysis as a committee member, and 2) providing Goodyear’s position on issues needing direction as a committee member, and 3) supporting customer requests related to these topics. 

  • Internal Alignment & Communication of M&C and ELT Liaison Work:

    • Lead Goodyear internal topic alignment & awareness of TIP  M&C and ELT work with key functional stakeholders in the company.  

    • Responsibilities include 1) developing content and holding global project monthly status updates (round tables) and alignment meetings to help inform, support, and communicate Goodyear’s position for industry strategy work being initiated by TIP and other organizations, and 2) working with Goodyear’s Communication department to provide both internal and external communications on M&C and ELT work as needed.     

 

Required Education & Experience:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Materials, Chemical Engr, Chemistry, Sustainability or related Materials Science discipline

  • Masters or PhD preferred

  • 5+ years in Material Science (understanding of tire chemistry/materials/compounding/processing) 

  • 5+ Years in the Tire Industry (Tire Manufacturing, Tire Performance, Sector and life cycle knowledge)

  • Leadership and proficiency in giving technical presentations to management

  • Desireable - regulatory knowledge (REACH, TSCA, EPA, ECHA, etc.)

  • Comfortable working with external organizations
