About the Position 
The Tire Industry Project (TIP) is a CEO led initiative of 10 tire manufacturers operating under the World Business Council for Sustainable Development (WBCSD). 
TIP provides a forum and platform on industry-wide sustainability issues to undertake innovative leading initiatives and research.  
This position within the Global Material Science Division requires a highly motivated, experienced and technically skilled associate with the primary purpose of representing Goodyear as a TIP co-chair for the Tire Road Wear Particle (TRWP) Working Group along with secondary responsibilities as a representative for other organizations that address TRWP related sustainability issues.  
Overall work focuses on TRWP exposure and hazard understanding such as 
1) quantifying degradation and accumulation in the environmental compartments (road, soil, fresh and marine waters & sediments, etc.), 
2) airborne distribution and potential atmospheric transfer, 
3) understanding TRWP chemical leaching and potential for toxicity, 
4) development of methods and standards to share with scientific community, 
5) stakeholder communications and

6) many other scientific gaps that need further study and understanding.
Strong communication and leadership skills are essential for this position with the purpose to drive internal alignment and to communicate Goodyear's position for TRWP initiatives both inside and outside the company as part of the overall company sustainability strategy.  
Due to the nature of the work, 15-25% of the employee's time is needed to attend TIP and other organizational meetings requiring international and domestic travel.    
Primary Responsibilities

TRWP Working Group Co-Chair Liaison: 

  • Co-chair the TRWP project focusing on the following sub-projects for the next TIP budget cycle: field sampling, aging & leaching, modeling, eco & human toxicity, test material preparation, refinement of qualitative & quotative analysis methods (P-GCMS, SPA), and stakeholder communications. 
  • Responsibilities include developing statements of work, consultant – search, selection and management, developing project budget & timelines, presenting progress updates, report development, leading WGs during meetings, and developing the WG communication project message.     


Other Organizational TRWP Liaison Work:

  • As needed, serve as a committee member on other organizations for TRWP related work being done by the tire industry.  

  • Overall responsibilities include providing technical support and analysis as a committee member, and providing Goodyear’s position on issues needing direction as a committee member, and supporting customer requests related to these topics. 


Internal Alignment & Communication of TRWP Liaison Work:

  • Lead Goodyear internal topic alignment & awareness on TRWP projects and other organizational work with key functional stakeholders in the company. 

  • Responsibilities include developing content and holding global project monthly status updates (round tables) and alignment meetings to help inform, support, and communicate Goodyear’s position for industry strategy work being initiated by TIP and other organizations, and working with Goodyear’s Communication department to provide both internal and external communications on TRWP work as needed.     


Required Education & Experience:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Materials, Chemical Engineering, Chemistry, Sustainability or related Materials Science discipline or related 

  • Masters or PhD preferred

  • 5+ years in Material Science (understanding of tire chemistry/materials/compounding/processing) 

  • 5+ Years in the Tire Industry (Tire Manufacturing, Tire Performance, Sector and life cycle knowledge)

  • Leadership and proficiency in giving technical presentations to management

  • Regulatory knowledge (REACH, TSCA, EPA, ECHA, etc.) desirable

  • Comfortable working with external organizations
