About the Position
Full-time position - Must be available for 2nd shift / 4 day (10 hours) schedule
The Tires and Materials Testing Technician may execute laboratory experimentation and testing to support materials science and compound development projects and/or receive and check in tires from the warehouse and plants. This position performs as a Machine/Equipment and Test Operator in a laboratory, research or industrial facility. The incumbent's work may involve manual tasks that require test/machine set-up, manual use of tools, reading the test specifications, matching the specific tire to the rim (requested on the specifications) and safely mount/balance many different size tires, while following all safety protocols. The equipment or machines operated by the Technician may be manual, semi-automatic or automatic. Requires understanding and capability to conduct laboratory mixing, extrusion, curing, test sample preparation, milling/molding rubber compounds and various standard/non-standard testing to characterize material properties. Agility/Flexibility are also required, as this lab specializes in turning non-routine fundamental research into state of the art materials technologies - Sometimes developing new/unique testing methods and equipment are required. He/She must be able to communicate effectively with Scientists/Engineers and support a positive work environment and collaborative teamwork approach to solve technical challenges. In addition, this associate may be in a facility that requires shift work (including evenings, nights and weekends).
Responsibilities

Complete mixing or testing of rubber compounds in a timely manner with attention to detail and quality.

Learn test methods, test equipment and test samples.

Recognize errors in testing and suggest improvements to team.

Take initiative to train/learn in other areas when work is low.

Perform equipment/machine or reactor set-up - Using a test request, specification, batch sheet or other input form.

Verify/Validate that the machine, test and sample are proper prior to initiating a test or experiment.

Receive/Check-In tires received from the warehouse and direct ships from the plants

Train/Learn how to run tests, prepare samples and run equipment.

Perform daily or weekly machine verification and safety checks.

Operate manual, semi-automatic and automatic machinery/equipment and processes.

Provide operational assistance on equipment (as required) to support engineering/maintenance or other special requests.

Complete required testing to move process forward.

Learn and understood ISO (International Organization for Standardization) audit process and participate (as required - per assigned schedule).

Enter test conditions into test machine computers, other designated logbooks or electronic records (as required).

Record test data in specified formats onto manual test books or computer systems.
Education and Experience
-
High School Diploma
-
Associate degree in a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering or Math) related field

1 or more years of experience in various work environments or 0 or more years of experience in various work environments with an Associates degree in relevant STEM field

Prior experience in a laboratory, manufacturing or industrial facility - Desired
