About the Position

You will have the opportunity to join the Tire & Performance Science department, in the Tire Vehicle Mechanics – Vehicle Dynamics team, to support tire development and vehicle manufacturers through vehicle dynamics investigations and further development of virtual tire development capabilities.

 

Primary Responsibilities

  • Support Product Development programs through assessment/benchmarking of the performance of tire/vehicle systems through modeling, testing and simulation.
  • Support Technology Development programs through development of new tire/vehicle test and simulation capabilities, enhancement of our predictive technologies using the latest data analysis tools in conjunction with up-to-date data science methods.
  • Further develop the creativity and innovation capacity of the team with a focus on virtual tire development.
  • Cooperate with vehicle OEM’s, external companies and universities to shape our virtual tire/vehicle development process for efficiency, quality and robustness.
  • Cooperate with CAE, data science and testing teams on lab tire force & moment testing, instrumented vehicle testing, tire/vehicle modeling and simulation.
  • Cooperate with tire design teams and provide recommendations for tire characteristics & tire design tuning to meet tire/vehicle performance objectives.

 

Required Education and Experience

  • The candidate must have completed a Bachelor degree in Mechanical Engineering or Control Theory, preferably in Automotive field.
  • A Master’s degree is preferred
  • Minimum 3 years of professional experience inside automotive industry (e.g. at a vehicle OEM) or academia for vehicle dynamics.
  • Experience with numerical methods.
  • Experience with data acquisition / analysis software.
  • Experience with instrumentation and sensor installation is an asset.
  • Experience with vehicle modeling and vehicle dynamics simulation software (e.g. CarMaker, VI-CRT, CarSim).
  • Experience with tire modeling and force & moment prediction software (e.g. MF-Tire, CD-Tire, F-Tire).
  • Experience with assessment/benchmarking of performance of tire and vehicle systems.
  • Experience with driving simulator (e.g. Vi-grade, MTS, static or dynamic) is an asset.
  • Experience with chassis and/or steering system development is an asset.
  • Experience with tire testing and prototype tire evaluation is an asset.

 

Skills and Abilities

  • Strong background in vehicle dynamics or related area.
  • Knowledge of data acquisition and processing software, MATLAB.
  • Knowledge of functional system development approach (V-model).
  • Proficient computer programming skills.
  • Self-motivated individual.
  • Team player with enthusiasm and initiative.
  • Interest in the automotive world, testing activities, virtual development.
  • Excellent communication, organizational and interpersonal skills.
