Vice President and Assistant Controller
The Vice President and Assistant Controller is responsible to direct the organization's Accounting function and assist the Vice President and Controller in the oversight of the global Controlling function. This position will establish/maintain the organization's accounting principles, practices and procedures. The incumbent will oversee the preparation/evaluation of budgets and other financial operating reports. He/She will present findings/recommendations to the senior leaders. This role provides leadership regarding technical United States (U.S.) Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) knowledge/policies to the world-wide Finance/Accounting community, accounting/reporting oversight to the corporate functional areas/strategic business units (SBUs) and accountability for consolidated financial statements (includes participating in the quarterly financial and accounting presentation to the Audit Committee and reporting responsibilities [company’s 10-K/Q, registration statements and government regulatory compliance]).
Job Duties / Responsibilities may include, but are not limited to:
- Oversee the interpretation and implementation of various accounting standards (issued by external agencies to develop financial statements) that accurately reflect the company's financial practices across the organization.
- Oversee the development and presentation of timely/accurate financial information - Allowing senior leaders to make effective business decisions.
- Ensure correct accounting decisions are made. Provide counsel on operational issues and financial disclosure issues related to business transactions affecting the consolidated financial statements, including acquisitions and divestitures. Direct the implementation of corporate-wide accounting policies/procedures. Ensure compliance with all external regulations and requirements. Provide financial/technical advice to the SBUs. Direct the financial accounting and reporting activities of the SBUs.
- Guide the management of the Internal Controls structure and design to ensure procedures are effective. Ensure strong internal controls are in place and operating effectively. Work closely with the internal/external auditors, as well as the controller group to identify/implement control enhancements (as necessary). Set the appropriate tone "at the top" as to the importance of internal controls and doing things the right way - Lead by both words and actions.
- Provide periodic updates to the Chief Financial Officer (CFO), Chief Digital Officer and/or Chief Executive Officer (CEO), as well as the Audit Committee of the Board of Directors. Build strong working relationships with stakeholders (i.e., functional/business leaders) to understand their needs. Ensure the controlling and shared service centers represent a competitive and attractive place to work for our associates, while meeting the strategic needs of Goodyear (including flexibility to support future growth, appropriate tools/resources are available to associates, salaries are competitive to limit turnover, etc).
KEY EXPERIENCE
- Bachelors degree in Accounting or Finance and Certified Public Accountant (CPA); Advanced Degree Preferred.
- 15 or more years of experience in (successful) financial leadership.
- Experience working in a large global organization, with manufacturing experience.
- Experience structuring financial models, defining business processes and successfully initiating business processes.
- Broad business exposure as related to consumer and commercially oriented customers.
KEY SKILLS
- In-depth knowledge of accounting and reporting activities.
- Knowledge of regulatory standards and compliance requirements (e.g., SOX, Securities and Exchange Commission).
- Knowledge of U.S. GAAP and Financial Accounting Standards Board.
- Demonstrated ability to listen and articulate a business case and lead others to a common goal.
- Knowledge/Ability to work in a large global environment.
