About The position:
The Workers Compensation Manager - COO provides direct management of the WC program (various locations) and is the single-point of contact for the Claims Management process. This position will develop metrics, provide technical expertise, enforce policies and provide leadership/problem resolution to reduce the number and cost  off occupational Injuries. He/She will facilitate Return-to-Work (RTW) or Stay-at-Work (SAW) programs (including the RTW Credit program). 
The incumbent will collaborate with Carrier and local counsel to process WC settlements for best outcomes of the case. This associate will manage the Occupational Disease program to ensure proper protocol is followed and outside legal counsel is properly assigned. This role will perform analysis of monthly data in support of department goals and business unit needs (with reporting functions to management, plants, auditors and vendors). In addition, this manager will educate, train and motivate Plant Leadership regarding WC processes

Primary Responsibilities

  • Provides direct management of the WC program for the COO division. Serves as the single-point of contact for the Claims Management process. Develop metrics, provides technical expertise, enforce policies and provide problem resolution to reduce the number/cost of occupational injuries. Facilitate RTW or SAW programs (including the RTW Credit program and legal compliance). Bring all claim issues to resolution. Identify, analyze, recommend and communicate solutions. Manage the relationship between the HumanResource Business Partner and Location Managers. Evaluate/Process WC settlements for best outcomes. Manage the occupational disease protocol for COO division claims. 

  • Perform analysis of monthly data in support of department goals/business unit needs, with reporting functions to management, plants, auditors and vendors. Prepare/Present regular financial and trending reporting to COO leadership.

  • Recognize trends to identify/implement process improvements(i.e., Temporary Transitional Employment [TTE] program, Associate Work Status [AWS]report distribution) -Implement location-specific WC programs (based on business need and legal requirements).

  • Leads partnership with carrier and medical providers to facilitate the claim to final resolution. Resolve issues in partnership with attorneys, vendors and medical providers (as needed). Provide strategy recommendations by actively engaging in WC claim reviews.

  • Audit department staff to ensure all leave data is properly entered into Workday- Ensures Supplemental Workers Compensation (SWC) and Family Medical Leave Act (FMLA) claims are properly filed/monitored. Make process improvement recommendations based on findings of audit.

  • Work closely with Alight/Workday processes to resolve overpayments/underpayments for the client group and communicate findings

  • Lead, train and motivate location leadership to support aggressive WC claim management. Maintain regular communication to develop relationships for review of programs/training -Identify opportunities for improvement. Develop specific Mentoring programs with location leaders (as needed).


Required Education and Experience

  • Bachelor's degree 

  • Master's degree preferred

  • 5 or more years of experience handling a Workers Compensation Program

  • 5 or more years of experience working with a third-party administrator or insurance carrier

  • ARM, AIC, CPCU or Similar Certifications desired


Desired Skills and Abilities                  

  • Technical expertise in WC knowledge of claim processing, cost drivers, settlement practices and transitional work programs

  • Solid understanding of financial analysis to review program costs and reserving practices

  • Experience with claim investigation and litigation

  • Working knowledge of government regulations associated with Workers Compensation

  • Excellent communications and time management skills

  • Team player who can influence and facilitate change
