The position reports to the Finance Manager South Europe and is the credit lead in the local organization, acting as a business partner to the business safeguarding the company from credit issues while supporting the top line growth.


Primary Purpose of the Position

  • Set and apply the policies and procedures around the creation of new customer accounts and monitor credit limits to minimize the risk of bad debt while supporting our top line growth strategy.
  • Engage into structural activities to optimize DSO, deliver both year-end and average DSO targets.  Ensure timely collection of cash and accurate recording of customer receipts. Lead the follow-up of past dues, engage into legal actions if necessary (together with legal department)
  • Monthly reporting of KPIs for the department, monthly collections and AR balance forecasts
  • Drive an efficient, aligned and effective organization. Ensure good collaboration with the shared service center.


Principle Duties and Responsibilities

  • Minimize the risk of bad debt: monitor the credit worthiness of existing customers, maintain strong procedures for the issue of credit limits for new customers, regularly review the credit policy to ensure that the procedures around the creation of new customer accounts and credit limit management are appropriate; increase the level of "awareness and credit culture" within Business Unit supporting the sales force by a "credit counseling" during business negotiations.
  • Meet year-end and average DSO targets, structurally reduce DSO: work together with the sales team to systematically treat payment terms as an important element of our value proposition, negotiate term reductions, engage into structural DSO reduction projects (past dues reduction programs, reduction of invoice queries working with sales department and sales administration department, propose financing solutions etc), engage into one-time actions to improve DSO performance (eg cash discount offers for early settlement)
  • Monitor performance, reporting and forecasting: lead monthly credit meetings, explain performance monthly, track departmental KPIs, responsible for the AR balance forecast monthly (18 months rolling forecast), responsible for maintaining DSO model to help forecast latest estimate of DSO; reporting on variance to actuals, prepare short term collections forecasts.
  • Maintain accurate AR ledgers and maintain a good internal control environment: ensure timely postings of AR receipts, ensure that bad debt reserves clearance, and provision is carried out and produced monthly, create and maintain internal controls to cover all risk areas, ensure compliance with the internal controls framework set up by the business, ensure that the Sarbanes-Oxley business process documentation is reviewed quarterly


  • Solid Finance background – needs to have a general finance understanding
  • Finance/Accountancy of business & Finance degree. Requires credit experience either in control or support role in credit function


  • Essential: experience in similar type industries (BtoB) and/or similar customer portfolios
  • Desired: credit management experience in an organization of similar (4-8 years), experience in US multi-national would be a plus (cash focus approach)


Knowledge & Skills 

  • Financial analysis
  • Experience of influencing business decisions at senior level
  • Strong knowledge, understanding, and practical skills in relevant systems (i.e. ERP system (SAP preferred), MS Office products.
  • Ability to practically apply lean/continuous improvement techniques.
  • Strong communication skills - written and verbal, with a wide range of stakeholders
  • Fluent in English, written and verbal
  • High on emotional intelligence / ability to liaise with internal and external customers and create a climate of confidence and trust
  • Self-motivated, highly energetic
  • Able to commit to and deliver high standards for self and others

  • Driving license - regular customer visits
