About the Position


Applying the experience and knowledge of a seasoned HR generalist, this role leads and directs the day to day HR responsibilities for our Bayport Chemical Plant and supplements the HR staff at our Houston Chemical plant.  Responsibilities will be focused on supporting the achievement of our plant’s business goals through the delivery of seamless HR strategies and systems. Success requires an aptitude to work in a number of areas including, but not limited to, staffing/affirmative action, employee relations, labor relations, training, performance management, compliance, and organizational development while maintaining positive associate relations and strong engagement.


Primary Responsibilities


  • Partner with local and divisional leadership to determine strategy and tactical plans to achieve business results while maintaining positive labor and employee relations.      
  • Build and sustain a collaborative, engaged work environment characterized by employee involvement and participative management.
  • Ensure the plant is staffed with innovative, multi-skilled, high-performing workforce with a focus on continuous improvement while achieving EEO compliance and affirmative action goals.   
  • Develop systems and process to ensure internal (Goodyear) and external (regulatory) compliance.
  • Build effective onboarding, training and performance management systems to support associates and maintain active involvement in the succession and career-planning process and workforce planning initiatives.
  • Maintain effective communication systems that enhance the organization effectiveness.
  • Administer the Performance Management Process to ensure effective employee development.
  • Ensure a safe and efficient work environment by building a culture where “Safety” is considered as a value not a focus/priority. Promote workplace safety by modeling safety work practices and taking a leadership role in addressing workplace safety and health issues.


Required Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree HR/business or related field
  • 3 or more years of HR experience in a manufacturing setting, chemical industry preferred.
  • Union experience is desirable.
  • Experience working on and leading cross functional teams.
  • Experience working with several different audiences, communicating efficiently, knowing your audience.
  • Experience investigating, analyzing and solving a myriad of complex associate relations issues.
  • Experience at a stand-alone facility (remote from regional office or global HQ).


Skills and Abilities

  • Strong knowledge of HR practices, employment and other related local and state and Federal laws.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Strong analytical and organizational skills.
  • Strong computer and MS Office Suite skills.
  • Understanding hiring practice and training methods in manufacturing.
  • Conceptual thinker with fantastic organizational and conflict management skills.
  • Excellent negotiation and problem-solving skills with the ability to multitask and adapt in a fast-paced environment.
