Purpose of the position:
The position at the Goodyear Beaumont Chemical Plant is responsible for the safe, efficient and reliable operation of their assigned organization. The Beaumont Chemical Plant is a manufacturing facility of synthetic rubber and other streams. The plant supplies polymer and hydrocarbon feed streams to numerous customers for tire and non-tire applications world-wide.
This position provides significant leadership and direction to their operating team in achieving site and unit specific business goals in the areas of Safety, Compliance, Quality, Cost and Production.
The incumbent is responsible for achieving quality and production goals per the annual operating plan while sustaining the highest level of Health, Safety and Environmental (HSE) performance and is accountable for managing the hourly associates in their assigned production unit and for providing day-to-day supervision to unit trainers, production specialists, and other staff assigned to the operating area.
The incumbent is involved with the scale-up of new products thru all the phases from research and development to plant production.
The incumbent is a member of the Extended Leadership Team and collaborates with peer leads in sharing and implementing industry and site best practices to improve business performance.
Principle Duties and Responsibilities:
- Safety and Process Safety:
- Support the plant's OSHA VPP program to maintain Star Status. Provides leadership by championing the safety programs and ensures program elements are imbedded in the front-line to prevent injuries.
- Ensure work activities are conducted safely per the plant's policies and procedures. Conducts routine safety and housekeeping inspections within the operating unit. Determine root causes for incidents and near misses and implement appropriate corrective actions.
- Environmental:
- Ensure compliance with all operating permits and plant environmental policies.
- Determine root causes for incidents and near misses and implement appropriate corrective actions.
- Pursue emission and waste reduction projects to minimize the unit's impact on the environment.
- Quality:
- Monitor quality performance of the operating unit and continually improve First Pass Prime and product consistency through innovative upgrades to equipment and procedures.
- Interface with customers to determine root cause of quality issues and provide timely corrective action responses.
- Promote housekeeping standards to prevent contamination of finished goods.
- Productivity/Cost:
- Coordinate unit operations and maintenance to provide finished goods and services per manufacturing plans. Implement projects to improve equipment uptime and reduce breakdown maintenance.
- Meet unit Annual Operating Plan fixed costs by managing staffing levels and controlling maintenance and operating costs.
- Associate Development:

Participate and deliver hourly and salary associate performance reviews. Develop succession plan and training requirements for hourly associates.

Provide leadership projects for hourly associates to facilitate promotional opportunities.

Mentor unit engineers and support training opportunities that meet business needs.

Education:
Bachelor’s Degree or in lieu of degree 10 or more years of experience in an Engineering/Operations function.
Experience:

5 or more years of experience in an Engineering/Operations function.

Prior (relevant) experience in Petrochemicals, Refining, Mid-stream and or Upstream Operations.

Experience leading others - Desired.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

Strong Communications skills (verbal and written).

Knowledge of process equipment and good mechanical aptitude.

Ability to lead/manage others.
