About the Position:

The Plant Services Manager is accountable for leading salary/hourly Utilities associates, Crew Leaders, and the Operational Excellence Coordinator. This position is a member of the Beaumont Leadership team and plays a key role in setting the strategic direction of the plant to meet business objectives.

 

The incumbent is accountable for the delivery of their department's top five manufacturing objectives in the areas of safety/PSM (process safety management), environmental compliance, quality, cost, and production. He/She is responsible for developing/implementing strategic plans to ensure efficient and reliable plant operations, industry best practices, process/optimization improvements and new product implementation. This role is accountable for coordinating the implementation of the operations excellence management system and standards across the plant.

 

As member of the site Leadership team, this associate interacts with a variety of functional teams at the Chemical divisional level to develop, establish and meet production goals. 

 

In addition, the Plant Services Manager is accountable for budget management practices (i.e., controlling costs, monitoring the allocation of financial resources in support of the top five manufacturing objectives and supporting the month-end close and accrual process for the Utilities department).  

 

This position is accountable for building capability, by ensuring hourly staff are qualified and receive training to maintain their skill sets to perform their job functions. The incumbent ensures that the salary staff has developmental plans in place, provides support/resources to help associates complete developmental actions and provides leadership in establishing/executing succession plans for attracting, developing, and retaining talent.

 

Responsibilities:

Drive continuous improvement in safety, PSM and environmental performance. Lead/Develop the environmental, health and safety (EHS) culture for the Utilities Operating team. Hold direct reports accountable for demonstrating EHS leadership. Support the Beaumont plant's OSHA (Occupational Safety and Health Administration) VPP (voluntary protection programs) and ISO 14001 efforts.

 

Lead, manage and coach the Crew Leaders, Operations Excellence Coordinator and Utilities Operations teams to achieve the site's business goals. Create/Execute associate development plans to continuously improve the team's capabilities. Develop/Implement succession plans to ensure viable candidates are ready for future vacancies.

 

Develop/Execute plant utilities operation and maintenance plans to ensure utilities supply reliability, while supporting the business teams' strategies. Communicate plans/priorities to the Operations teams to ensure alignment.

 

Create/Manage the fixed cost annual operating plan (AOP). Submit expenditures and accruals to accounting for the monthly closing process.

 

Accountable for overseeing the establishment of the operations excellence management system, by executing the multi-year implementation plan of the operations excellence standard. Provide leadership, expertise and guidance to the Operating teams and Crew Leaders through the implementation of priority elements (i.e., operator expectations, operator rounds, shift handover, etc.). Accountable for identifying and recommending industry best practices and technologies to improve operating performance.  

 

Education and Requirements:

  • Bachelor of Science in Engineering is required for this position, Mechanical or Chemical focus is desired.
  • Preferred, but not required, Master’s Degree in Engineering, Mechanical or Chemical desired, or MBA.
  • 5 or more years of experience in a chemical plant operations environment.
  • 3 or more years managing salary/hourly employees, financial responsibilities, and production planning.
  • Problem-solving experience.

  • Ability to lead/manage multi-functional and diverse teams.
  • Communication, project management, continuous improvement and process thinking skills.
  • Long-range planning ability, with capability to integrate with short-term actions.
  • Ability to relate with customers and determine important versus urgent.
  • Cost analysis experience.
