About the Position

Assist & lead to ensure equipment complies with all safety, environmental & other regulatory compliances. Track engineering expense & capital budgeting compliance. Assist to ensure the proper design, installation, modification & maintainability of new & existing plant equipment, buildings & facilities. Assist engineering & maintenance to support to the organization's production of the highest quality product at the lowest possible cost.


Goodyear Beaumont plant utilities operation includes:

  • Generation of 400 and 100psi steam (12 boilers).
  • Generation of electrical power  (5 turbine driven generators).
  • Centralized Cooling Tower operation and water distribution.
  • Process Refrigeration and Instrument Air Compressors.
  • Gas and Steam Turbine Co Gen operation.


The Technology Engineer Associate (Utilities) position is responsible for the optimization of these systems and troubleshooting malfunction/breakdown in a timely manner to ensure operational reliability for the Beaumont Chemical plant. This role is key in planning of both ongoing preventative maintenance programs and large scale shutdown maintenance plans. This position also ensures our environmental compliance within parameters of state and federal permits. 


Primary Responsibilities:


  • Perform activities involving continuous improvement and  analysis of plant utilities systems, recommending solutions & facilitating initiatives for improving operational economics. These duties would include assisting in training & instruction of appropriate associates & day-to-day support.
  • Assist in identification of unacceptable performance through analysis & acquired technical knowledge of the utilities operations process including waste & cost reduction.  
  • Assist in & learn the process for preparing cost estimates, financially justifying projects, prepare budgets, review design, supervise installation & commissioning. Assists in research of new equipment, systems & processes to advance plant operations.    
  • Gain understanding & assist to ensure safety, environmental & other regulatory compliance by working with appropriate  associates on EHS issues. Develops and implements MOCs  & continually improves the communication across all relevant departments.        
  • Participate in contractor management process & periodically audit contractor’s work to ensure that safe work practices & standard operating procedures are followed.     


Required Education and Experience:


  • BS degree in Mechanical Engineering.
  • Ideally 2 years experience working with multidisciplinary engineering & maintenance associates to achieve cost effective goals.
  • Equipment design experience & project engineering or project management role is preferred.          
  • Ability to use appropriate computer-based technology.
  • Ability to understand P&IDs, mechanical diagrams, electrical control systems.
  • Ability to understand modern safety control systems.
