About the Position

This position provides direction & leadership for the manufacturing hourly & salary education & training efforts in the chemical organization to ensure that all manufacturing associates have the competencies required to meet customer & government requirements & continuous improvement in every manufacturing performance indicator. The position is accountable for the management &/or coordination of the hourly training processes & systems which meet prescribed training guidelines. This position is key to the implementation & measurement of key intervention strategies which allow each plant to achieve its performance objectives. The Training Manager plays a key role in assessing local competency gaps & helps to define measures for remediation of these gaps.  

 

Primary Responsibilities

  • Lead & direct the plant training function. Assists in developing annual plant training plan. Identify & organize resources to implement hourly & salary training plans. Participates in auditing plant training function performance against training guidelines. Advises plant leadership on matters related to floor education & training.   

 

  • Oversee & use plant training systems. Certification check-off process. Annual verification & performance screen process. Recordkeeping system. Objective based training methodology system for training documentation. Testing/test-out system. Develop best practices among our chemical manufacturing facilities, which includes regular support visit to Houston & to a lesser extent Bayport & Niagara Falls.    

 

  • Conduct &/or implement training programs, new employee orientation processes & assist with salary training implementation as necessary. Train trainers. Maintain & support craft/maintenance training. Measure & evaluate training. Evaluate skills attained in job training. Conduct post training follow-up. Develop metrics that measure impact of training. Verify that training relates to organization development requirement. Identify performance gaps (knowledge, skills & ability).      

 

  • Communication: Maintain an “open door” & model effective two-way communications with associates at all levels of the facility. Communicate training issues to HR Manager & Plant Leadership. Maintain daily communication with Plant Leadership, Site Shift Managers, etc. to insure positive training relations. Participate in public relations. Participate in public relations assistance as requested. Coordinate & participate in community & outreach events as required.     

 

  • Leadership: Model effective leadership & communication skills at all times. Maintain confidentiality.

 

Required Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s Degree is required. Degree in business/ personal management/ business administration preferred.
  • MBA or Master’s degree in training & education desired.
  • 2-5 years’ experience in training facilitation for hourly & salary staff.
  • 2-5 years' experience managing the functions of planning training, scheduling tacking, evaluation, reporting at a mid-sized company or 1-2 years at a large company.
  • 2-5 years conducting gap analysis & proposing solutions for countermeasures.
  • 2-5 years' experience in curriculum design & development writing objective-based training guides & the creation of evaluation tools.
