Manufacturing Training Manager

Primary Purpose of the Position

The Training Manager sets the strategic direction for the Beaumont Site's salary and hourly education, talent management and training programs, processes and systems.  This position is a member of the Beaumont Chemical Plant Human Resources Department and is accountable for building capability by continously improving the training management system and implementing site industry practices for learning and development.  The Training Manager provides leadership by ensuring site associates are highly skilled and certified to meet customer and government requirements.  

This position manages and coordinates the salary and hourly training processes to align with the site's strategic goals and oversees the Learning Management System (LMS). The incumbent will collaborate with management teams and associates to conduct competency gap assessments and develop gap closure plans.  

The Training Manager is accountable for developing the short and long-term training, development, retention and succession planning strategies for both hourly and salary staff across multiple departments in support of the site's goals. This position is responsible for identifying and implementing best industry practices such as use of new technologies to enhance the learning and training curriculum. The Training Manager is responsible for developing and establishing robust learning metrics to measure progress against the set training goals.


Principle Duties and Responsiblities

  • Align Plant's training function with the site strategy. Oversee the development of annual plant training plans for each unit to ensure they align with site goals. Work with managers, HR, and Plant Leadership to dentify and organize resources to implement hourly and salary training plans. Responsible for performing regular audits to ensure compliance. Advises plant leadership on matters related to associates' education and training.
  • Oversee Plant Computer Based Training System - Learning Management System (LMS). Ensure training department is  utilizing LMS for the following:  CBT completion, KPI monitoring and reporting, tracking certifications/recertifications, and corporate training requirements.  Work with LMS experts (internal and external) to continuous the LMS system, software upgrades, and system functionality. 
  • Implement and oversee training programs: new hire orientation, Basic Operator Training (BOT), operator and maintenance continuous education, and salary training. Responsible for building trainer capabilities. Maintain and support craft/maintenance training. Implement best industry practices to continuosly improve training delivery methods.  Develop learning scorecard and metrics to monitor progress.
  • Communication: Maintain an “open door” and model effective two way communications with associates at all levels of the facility. Communicate training issues to HR Manager and Plant Leadership. Maintain daily communication with Plant Leadership, SBTLs, Site Shift Managers, etc. to ensure alignment on business objectives.
  • Coordinate and participate in public relations events and community outreach programs as required.  Responsible for building relationships with local learning institutions and Unversities.  Attend career and job fairs to attract talent and build pipeline of operations and maintenance associates. 


Education & Experience

  • Bachelor's Degree is required
  • 5 or more years of experience working in manufacturing
  • 2 or more years of experience in training facilitation for hourly and salary staff
  • 2 or more years of experience in curriculum design, development writing of objective-based training guidelines and the creation of tools
  • 3 or more years of experience managing the following training functions: Planning, scheduling, tracking, evaluation and reporting (at a mid-sized company or 1+ years at a large company)
  • 2 or more years of experience conducting gap analysis and proposing solutions for countermeasures

  • Strong communication and leadership skills
  • Process thinking and the ability to develop standard work and lead in a continuous environment
  • Competent in technology utilized in the training industry
  • Ability to recommend learning and development interventions (after analysis of problem and consideration of alternative solutions)
  • Communicate effectively in visual, oral and written form - Utilizing required technologies
  • Ability to design and implement systems to track training and the associated costs
  • Must stay current on learning and development industry trends to meet the needs of cross-generational associate learning
