Primary purpose of the position:
The Utilities Technology Engineer plays a critical role in ensuring the safe, reliable, and efficient operation of Utilities facilities.
This position leverages technical expertise to monitor and enhance plant performance, troubleshoot operational challenges, and maintain compliance with environmental and safety standards.
As a role model for professional behavior and operational excellence, the engineer helps shape a positive plant culture through proactive engagement and accountability.
With a strong foundation in engineering principles and plant operations, the engineer is responsible for executing routine tasks, resolving standard issues, and contributing to continuous improvement efforts.
The role also involves developing capabilities in value creation, financial acumen, and cost-effective service delivery to support long-term facility performance and profitability.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities:
- HEALTH, SAFETY, AND ENVIRONMENTAL SUPPORT Address and communicate safety gaps as soon as identified. Provide technical support for accurate risk assessment of plant processes. Provide technical support for the safe handling of chemicals. Identify and pursue actions that reduce plant environmental footprint. Work closely with the Environmental Department to maintain the facility’s right to operate by ensuring ongoing compliance. Understand current procedures and keep a strong field presence to reinforce their importance.
- TECHNICAL SUPPORT Work across teams to implement new technology and update operating procedures. Conduct daily review of logbooks and alarm history to better understanding the plant operation and stay engaged in daily activities. Use process data to support continuous improvement. Evaluate raw material and maintenance schedules to support uninterrupted plant operations. Work with the Engineering Department to design equipment according to Recognized And Generally Accepted Good Engineering Practices (RAGAGEP). Maintain up-to-date knowledge of relevant codes and standards, including ASME, API, and other applicable industry practices.
- PROBLEM SOLVING Learn and apply appropriate problem-solving strategies to deliver defined objectives to meet business needs. Learn and apply standard tools and techniques of collaboration, to solve problems and make improved business decisions. Work within environment and culture that encourages collaboration between teams. Act as the unit technical expert during unplanned events and implement effective corrective and preventive actions. Diagnose and document root causes of asset utilization losses in the facilities. Complete assigned tasks while gaining an understanding of their broader impact. Apply technical skills to well-defined problems and use appropriate data analysis techniques to support informed decision-making.
- PROJECT MANAGEMENT Learn and apply project management tools and execution standards for assigned projects. Use established project management techniques to support the successful delivery of small projects, both within a team and across departments. Apply risk management principles to identify and mitigate potential issues throughout the project lifecycle. Work closely with suppliers and vendors to define and align on the scope of projects. Develop an understanding of conflict resolution strategies and apply new knowledge to effectively address and resolve project-related challenges.
Education and Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering is required.
- MS in Mechanical Engineering is desired.
- 2 years’ experience working with multi-disciplinary engineering and maintenance associates to achieve cost effective goals.
- Equipment design experience and project engineering or project management role is preferred.
