Reporting to the Controller EMEA, this position is responsible for the Group (US GAAP) Statutory and local GAAP (UK, Ireland, Sweden, Finland, Norway, Denmark, Estonia) financial statements and for ensuring the integrity of internal control systems.

 

THE ROLE

 

  • Owner of the financial audit process, both internally and externally, including the submission of statutory accounts under local GAAP. Ensuring compliance with internal control systems and SOX, including managing the quality of account reconciliations prepared by the teams within Global Business Services.
  • Legal Director on all Goodyear UK, Ireland and Nordic companies.
  • Management of UK, Ireland and Nordic finance teams (Controlling, Tax, Treasury and AP) and matrix management of IT for UK/Ireland.
  • Management of risk/tax risk management process with the Executive Lead Team (ELT), ensuring they are kept up to date on all financial, tax and pensions legislative changes.
  • Support the ELT, EMEA controller and EMEA finance team on ad-hoc projects.
  • Responsible for the legacy Defined Benefit pension scheme, working with the Akron team, pension trustees and external advisors.
  • Management of the UK 60 plus property portfolio.
  • Ensure that the local Financial Accounting department and the Regional Business Service produces the period end financial information to a high standard and within the corporate deadlines. Regularly review the month end process to identify opportunities to save time.
  • Lead by example to ensure that staff are aware of their responsibility to ensure the integrity of the financial books, complying with all legal requirements. Maintain an open and honest working relationship with all internal and external auditors, regulatory bodies and HMRC.
  • Maintain frequent two-way communication with the SBU heads, Regional Management and Department Managers to ensure a strong knowledge of the business and finance involvement in decision making.
  • Liaise with the FP&A team to understand the forecasts and assist in the preparation of variance analysis.  Ensure all teams are fully integrated within the business, supporting all cost saving initiatives.
  • Work as part of the ELT and regional teams to support the development of strategic projects.  Ensuring that fellow ELT members are kept up to date on all financial and tax legislation.
  • Internal Controls - Ensure compliance with the internal controls framework set up by the business.  Make recommendations in cases where internal controls could be improved and review Sarbanes-Oxley business process documentation quarterly for financial accounting to ensure it is up to date.
  • Joint holder of UK HGV UK operating license

 

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE & SKILLS

 

  • Qualified Chartered Accountant (ACA, ACCA) or equivalent.
  • BA qualified.
  • MBA preferred.
  • Significant post-qualification finance and accounting experience.  Alternative the candidate should have held a Management position in a renowned public accounting firm, with strong exposure to complex accounting transactions, accounting policies and management of large teams.
  • Financial Management experience in an accounting environment for a similar sized business
  • Strong knowledge in accounting principles for both fiscal and US GAAP, local GAAP as well as tax.
  • Knowledge of Defined Benefit pension schemes would be useful
  • Knowledge of property management would be useful.
  • Deep understanding of accounting closing procedures, business processes and operations.
  • Extensive knowledge of accounting systems, processes and practices.
  • SAP knowledge as a user, proficient in computer and PC applications.
  • Experienced people manager.
