Tax Manager UK, Ireland and Nordics – Maternity Cover

 

Reporting to the Manager Tax EMEA and matrix to the Controller UK, Ireland and Nordics, the Tax Manager UK, Ireland and Nordics is responsible for all tax (accounting) related matters specific to UK, Ireland and Nordics. In addition, the person is responsible for SOX compliance, will assist in the management of the Defined Benefits pension scheme and will assist the Controlling team on ad hoc projects.  The position interacts internally with various departments and externally with auditors and advisors.

 

Principal Responsibilities:

Tax:

  • Ensure that all taxes for the UK, Irish and Nordics Goodyear companies are properly calculated, accounted and disclosed in accordance with US GAAP, SEC and local GAAP rules. Ensure that adequate Sox and other controls are implemented in this respect.
  • Prepare all monthly, quarterly and annual tax reporting packages and other tax reporting for the UK, Irish and Nordics Goodyear companies.
  • Ensure the monthly forecasts / annual Operating Plan reflect the proper amount of future tax expense & cash out for the UK, Irish and Nordics Goodyear companies.
  • Monthly prepare and provide information to allow EY to prepare the monthly UK VAT returns, review the draft VAT returns and reconciliation of the filed VAT returns to the VAT accounts.
  • Work on PAYE accrual/payment, PAYE settlement agreement, Taxed Award Scheme, Pension contribution reconciliation
  • Support the Controller UK, Ireland and Nordics in the statutory audit process with respect to all tax matters.
  • Prepares / reviews the corporate income tax returns for the UK Goodyear entities and prepares and books a Provision to Return on both current and deferred taxes in accordance with US GAAP. Ensures that the UK corporate income tax returns are filed in line with Goodyear policies and UK law.
  • Provide all relevant tax and accounting information to the service provider that prepares the corporate income tax returns for Ireland and Nordics, review the draft tax returns and prepare and book a Provision to Return on both current and deferred taxes in accordance with US GAAP. Ensures that the corporate income tax returns are filed in line with Goodyear policies and in line with respective local legislation.
  • Provide all relevant tax and accounting information to prepare the annual transfer pricing documentation in UK, Ireland and Nordics, review drafts and ensure timely finalization of the transfer pricing documentation including CbCR notification, Master file (if any), etc..
  • First Point of contact for the tax auditors in a tax audit in the UK and point of contact/ support for tax audits in Ireland and Nordics. Provides all accounting information to the tax authorities and liaises with the EMEA Tax department and tax advisors (if applicable) on other questions.
  • Reviews compliance with resale minus margins, agency/CRM fee, … on a regular basis and monitors the need for year-end adjustments
  • Assist in/take the lead on tax projects involving UK, Ireland and Nordics
  • Support the Manager Tax EMEA to ensure that implications of UK, Ireland and Nordics tax (planning) projects are known and properly determined by modeling the tax and legal impact of proposed (planning) alternatives and transactions.
  • Stay updated on UK, Ireland and Nordics and international tax legislation; communicate implication of law changes and make proposals on addressing the changes when needed.

 

Controlling:

  • To support the business in its understanding and compliance with SOX, providing training where appropriate.
  • Assist in the management of the Defined Benefits pension scheme, and support HR when requested in respect of Defined Contributions pension scheme.
  • Assist the Controlling team on ad hoc projects

 

Reporting:

  • The Controller Nordics and the Finance Manager Ireland report matrix into the Tax Manager UK, Ireland and Nordics with respect to tax matters.

         

Skills, Experience and Education:

 

  • Minimum of 5 years of tax experience, with at least 2 year relevant local & US GAAP tax accounting experience.
  • Big four and/or US multinational company experience a plus.
  • Knowledge of US GAAP, local GAAP and local tax legislation.
  • Strong research skills and ability to manage multiple tasks.
  • A bachelor degree in accounting (tax) is required; a CPA, another recognized accounting qualification or other advanced degree is a plus
  • Able to analyze and grasp a situation quickly from different perspectives and create well-reasoned solutions.
  • Interpersonal skills that allow establishing and maintaining excellent relationships and credibility quickly. Creates team atmosphere while achieving key objectives.
  • Through effective communications skills, able to present ideas and information clearly and persuasively to a wide range of audiences.
  • Demonstrates ethical and moral behavior; unquestionable integrity and character.
