The Opportunity:

Reporting to the VAT Cluster Leader, the VAT Accountant is a member of the GBS Bucharest CoE VAT & Intrastat team. 
The VAT accountant supports the monthly/quarterly/annual VAT and INTRASTAT compliance processes under the guidance of the VAT Cluster leader and with the support of our external service provider, to ensure that VAT returns and reports and Intrastat statements, for the countries in scope, are filed timely and accurately.

Main Duties and Responsibilities:

• Support the monthly/quarterly/annual VAT compliance processes to provide the required data for the preparation of VAT returns for the countries in scope.
• Data extraction and communication with external provider.
• Perform adjustments to SAP data to ensure correctness of VAT returns and communicate such adjustments to external provider.
• Calculate required VAT adjustments for the preparation of the returns and process VAT journals to properly maintain the VAT accounts.
• Escalate complex issues and track the resolution process accordingly.
• Provide additional support to our external services provider in relation to VAT data required for returns preparation.
• Perform monthly reconciliations of VAT accounts.
• Perform high level review of draft VAT returns provided by our external service provider.
• Keep informed on the VAT legislative updates in the countries in scope.
• Initiate payment process for the countries in scope.
• Liaise with the European AP/Accounting/Billing/Customs teams to ensure VAT compliance across all jurisdictions is accurate.
• Ensure internal & SOX controls are followed to guarantee the completeness, correctness, and security of key financial data. 
• Support the monthly INTRASTAT processes for the preparation and submission of the INTRASTAT statements for the countries in scope.
• Participate in projects to support the implementation of process improvements within your area of responsibility.

• You have a bachelor's degree in Accountancy and an affinity with VAT.
• You are proficient in English.

• You have great communication skills and are a team player.
• You have good Excel skills and a problem-solving attitude.
• 2 - 4 years of experience in VAT or general and/or financial accounting, billing.
• Knowledge of SAP is a strong plus.
