Cooper Tire and Rubber Company is seeking a highly motivated and results driven professional to join our Clarksdale MS manufacturing team.


Specific Job Duties:

  • Responsible for compound quality control of their assigned compounds.  This includes issuing formulations and mixing parameters, daily monitoring of stock testing results, and weekly review of compound physical properties to maintain compound performance with specified limits.
  • Tests development equipment and formulates standard operating procedures for mixing, extrusion, calendaring, tire building, and curing.
  • Tests processing equipment and instruments to observe and record operating characteristics and performance of specified design or process.
  • Observes chemical or physical operation processes and recommends modification or change.
  • Observes and confers with equipment operators to ensure specified techniques are used.
  • Issues timely and accurate technical reports and submits finding to Plant Manager.
  • Performs preventative and corrective maintenance of chemical processing equipment.
  • Prepares chemical solutions for use in processing materials and conducts evaluations of materials such as synthetic textiles, rubber compounds, and other chemical raw materials following formulas.  Sets up test equipment.
  • Originates and updates general specifications and standard procedures as needed.  Introduces change in a controlled manner so as to provide adequate documentation of the effect of the change and to prevent significant process interruptions.
  • Responsible for the technical control of rubber scrap.  Determines sources of scrap generation and implements plans for its control.  Determines the disposition for scrap materials and controls its use into designated areas.
  • Carries out compounding changes to assigned compounds to maintain specified physical and processing properties.  Participates in the development and maintenance of Standard Formula Control specifications.
  • Stays informed of new technology through contact with vendors, discussion with divisional technical personnel, reading of technical publications, and attendance at seminars or professional group meetings.
  • Maintains close and cooperative working relationship with other departments.
  • Serves as technical expert in matters of mixing, extrusion, curing and compound quality control.
  • May instruct or participate in training of technicians or new associate process chemist.
  • Writes reports which provide sufficient technical detail, while remaining concise.
  • May, on occasion, be required to perform duties other than those listed in this job description to insure efficient operations in the plant.

Basic Qualifications:

Four year college or university degree; or two to four years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.  A B.S. degree in chemistry, chemical engineering, or equivalent discipline is desired.
