Internship in Process Development - Non-Pneumatic Tires (m/f)

The Opportunity
The subject of this internship is “Process development to plasma treat thermoplastic materials”.

The main objective of this work consists in setting up and optimizing a process to plasma treat thermoplastic (TPE) materials from a laboratory level to robotized prototype level. This works also includes to setup the equipment with the support of Goodyear engineers. The quality of the plasma treatment will be determined by defined adhesion tests. 
This study includes establishing and conducting Design of Experiments to optimize the plasma treatment process with respect to targeted mechanical properties and adhesion tests. The robustness of the process will be assessed by repeating best plasma treatment identified from the DOE.
Once the process is optimized and robustness confirmed, extensions to tire application will be performed. 
Deliverables consist of a detailed written report and process documentation in English. 

Responsibilities:

• Get acquainted with prototype equipment and TPE substrates.
• Write a short prototype operating procedure.
• Optimize prototype plasma treatment process:
  • Read scientific reports from the laboratory development phase.
  • Setup Design of Experiments and perform plasma treatment trials.
  • Measure adhesion of build composites and use adhesion results as feedback for process optimization.
  • Use analytical tools for summarizing test results.
• Prepare large amounts of plasma treated TPE substrates using optimized processing conditions.
• Participate in building and curing tires from adhesive coated substrates.
• Write a detailed scientific report.
• Follow HSE rules and wear appropriate Personal Protective Equipment

To join our team you will need:

Education:
Master degree in Chemistry, Mechanical engineering, Materials Science or Physics – knowledge and experience of plasmas and/or elastomers/rubbers/plastics would be considered as an asset.

Languages:
Fluency in English (written/spoken) is mandatory ; any other language is considered as an asset.

Skills & Qualifications:  
Microsoft Office ; Mandatory soft skills:  Problem solving, communication, Teamwork.

You must be available for 6 months & be enrolled in university.
