Application Systems Administrator

The Application Systems Senior Analyst is a technical position involving the support of a particular application system. The incumbent will aid in the support of one or more application systems. This could include but is not limited to applications or third-party tools such as SAP, Lotus Notes, AutoSys, Dazel, Patrol, MQSeries, Vitria, Tivoli, Filenet, etc. Incumbents are responsible for handling the intermediate administrative tasks of a specific application system.        

Primary Duties/Responsibilities:

• Monitor system performance and make sure systems are operating optimally. May make system modifications in order to tune application.
• Test and implementation application upgrades and patches.
• Troubleshoot intermediate-level problems and recommend appropriate actions.
• Participate in on-call support of application systems.
• Contact vendor support when issues arise. Responsible for issue until a resolution is found.    
• Use and document standard application system processes and procedures.
• Work closely with the database and operating system personnel to ensure space requirements, backup procedures and performance needs are being met.  
• Involved with the installation, testing and maintenance of a particular application.
• Translate business requirements into technical requirements and assist other team members in implementing the solution.     
•  Assist/mentor entry-level administrators with more complex problem resolution.              

Education and Certifications

• Bachelor’s Degree in MIS, computer science, engineering, technology, business administration or related discipline.      

Experience

• Minimum of 4 years of experience in IT
• Proven experience with Linux system administration.
• Proficiency in Windows Server administration and application management.
• Strong scripting skills (Bash, Python, PowerShell) for automation.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

• Good understanding of a specific application system.
• Good understanding of one or more operating systems.
• Basic knowledge of networking standards.
• Good organizational, communication and managerial skills.
• Good troubleshooting skills.
• Basic understanding of business processes.
