Primary Purpose of Position:

The Project Safety Specialist is primarily responsible for providing oversight and education on construction safety aspects for the plant.  The position will involve planning and risk assessment, performance of routine audits and inspections, facilitating closure of identified issues, collection and consolidating relevant data, and preparing reports.  The candidate must have strong knowledge of construction safety regulations (29 CFR 1926) and practices as well as an understanding of general industry safety regulations (29 CFR 1910).  


Principle Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Provide on-the-floor safety expertise by participating in daily planning and safety meetings, investigating incidents and concerns, developing, and reviewing risk assessments and job safety analyses, and facilitating the closure of related action items for active projects at the plant.
  • Collect, organize, and report safety-related data including incident investigation information, audit/inspection results, and other key performance indicators.
  • Develop and conduct safety-related training and communications
  • Review and validate contractor safety plans, programs, and training; assist in the administration of the contractor qualification process.  

 

Education:

Required:  Bachelor’s degree in an EHS-related field with emphasis in construction safety or five (5) or more years of exp in a construction safety
Preferred: Professional certification in EHS (GSP, ASP, CSP, CIH, CHST, CHMM, etc.)

 

Experience:

  • At least one (1) year of experience on a construction project required
  • Experience implementing and monitoring construction safety programs.
  • Experience tracking, trending, and reporting safety-related data.

 
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  • Strong knowledge of federal, state, and local EHS regulations relating to construction safety (fall protection, scaffolding, electrical safety, cranes/hoists/rigging, hot work, OSHA recordkeeping, etc.) 
  • Ability to establish and maintain an effective working relationship between associates and contractors. 
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong organizational skills.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office applications.
  • Solid understanding of third-party pre-qualification services (Avetta, ISNetworld, etc.)
