The HR Specialist provides support to all HR functions within the Medicine Hat Manufacturing facility - particularly in areas of benefits/pensions/employee relations. Reporting to the HR Manager, the HR Specialist will be a subject expert in assigned HR areas - as well as providing general support to allied management and associates.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities:

 

  • Provide support on various HR processes, including benefits administration, pension processes, HRIT functions (e.g. new employee setup, pay changes), and disability service management.
  • Provides counsel for associates in assigned HR areas & training for associates in using self-service systems. Creates & maintains company policy procedures, practices to ensure the facility remains in compliance with all corporate and legislative requirements.
  • Designs, implements and measures training to ensure standard work processes are documented and that cross training is up to date within the HR department. May be assigned project management tasks to support talent development, change management & organization development.
  • Provide staffing support. Collaborate with HR team to create positive hiring manager experiences. Continuously drive the quality of candidates & process efficiency. Drive the quality of candidates & process efficiency. Drive transparency in staffing decisions.    
  • Support learning & development initiatives.
  • Manage HR administration through various standard and proprietary systems, including SAP, Workday, Global Talent Management System (GTMS), GEMS, GAIMS & others.
  • Process promotions, exits, demotions, transfers, leaves of absence & other events.
  • Monitor quality of & compliance to, performance management processes.                                

    Education & Certifications :

     
  • Completed university or college degree/diploma in HR, business or related field.

    Experience, Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

 

  •  3-7 years of previous operations experience with preference for prior experience in a HR environment.
  • Management experience desired.
  • Manufacturing experience desired.
  • Good knowledge of HR regulations & procedures.
  • Ability to use Microsoft Office applications as well as developed general software knowledge and capacity.
  • Expertise in working with union & non-union environments.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with solid verbal & written communication abilities.
  • Solid analytical & research skills.
