The primary purpose of a compounder is to develop and optimize rubber compound formulation that meet performance, quality and cost objectives for manufacturing processes. Compounder need to ensure the effective selection and blending of raw materials to achieve desired properties such as strength , elasticity and durability etc. The role involves overseeing the mixing process , troubleshooting technical and processing issues, and maintaining consistency in compound performance. Additionally ,compounder need to collaborate with cross-functional teams such as production , maintenance , R&D and regional team to scale the formulation in production while adhering to quality and safe standards. By driving continuous improvement initiatives , the compounder engineer enhances efficiency , reduces waste and support innovation in compound development.

 

Job responsibilities:

  • Develop rubber compounds following the corporate specifications to meet the required performance , cost and quality.
  • Optimize raw material selection, balancing properties such as elasticity, strength and durability. Conduct experimental trials to validate and refine compound performance.
  • Supervise and manage mixing process, ensuring accurate ingredient weighing,
  • sequence, and dispersion.
  • Evaluate and optimize equipment setting to enhance compound consistency and efficiency. Address
  • and resolve issues related to scorching , dispersion or mixing time deviations.
  • Monitor laboratory testing of compounds using rheometers, tensile testers and Mooney viscometers to ensure adherence to specification and analyze the data.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve compound related production issues. Anticipate problems and identify them proactively. Develop and advise on new problem solving strategies. Use collaboration to solve problems and make decisions. Develop new tools and methods to solve problems.
  • Collect data and inputs to make decisions. Consult with resources. Make decisions based on facts and
  • data.
  • Identify high impact projects and implement solutions. Develop innovative solutions to large complex technical
  • problems.
  • Develop and advise on new data analysis techniques cross-functionally.
  • Use statistical tools to analyze test results and identify trends or inconsistencies.
  • Use known, and develop new, tools and standards for project execution. lead or participate in Lean manufacturing or six sigma projects to improve mixing efficiency.
  • Execute, develop, and advise necessary steps and activities for project execution. Deliver to
  • project objectives.
  • Provide expertise and advice that adds value to project planning. Use project risk management process to
  • manage risks.
  • Develop and create approaches to mitigate risk. Advise on lessons learned. Develop/advise/use creative approaches to execute projects.
  • Collaborate with cross functional team to implement process improvement and best practices.
  • Develop self-leadership and technical competencies to prepare for next level roles in the organization.
  • Expected to develop self and others, and to model high ethical standards.
  • Training staff on quality procedures and standards. Work closely with R&D, regional quality and production team to align compound development with operational goals.
  • Provide technical support and training to production staff regarding compounding procedures and quality standards. 

 

 

Job qualifications:

  • Bachelors degree required - Preferred: Chemical Engineering, Polymer Science and engineering, Material Science , Chemistry with minimum 3 years working experience in rubber compounding
  • Experience in industry such as Tire manufacturing, Rubber goods, consumer goods
  • Strong background in quality assurance practices , methodologies and tools like 5Why , FMEA, Kaizen etc
  • Demonstrated ability to do systematic problem solving and trouble shooting in manufacturing environment
  • Demonstrated commitment to continuous improvement and driving quality initiatives within the organization
  • Energize the team and maintain a positive attitude with peers. Provide constructive feedback. Plan and lead meetings.
  • Give clear and concise technical guidance. Manage/deflect/diffuse conflict. Provide technical direction and logical conclusion within function. Actively solicit opportunities for leadership.
