About the Position 
The Facility Maintenance Technician is an entry-level position that conducts proactive/reactive maintenance on buildings and building systems.

 

This position's work will vary from day-to-day and may include, but not limited to:
•    Conducting routine maintenance on HVAC (heating, ventilation, and air conditioning) systems, hydraulic systems, compressed air systems, water treatment and water distribution systems, wastewater systems, fire protection systems, fire hydrants and pumps. 
•    Reworking, installing, servicing mechanical and electrical components and systems.
•    Operating various pieces of heavy equipment including a grader, a backhoe, forklift, farm tractors, skid loader, 5-ton dump truck, high reach, various rollers for compaction, a D- 8 bulldozer, front end loader, water trucks and trac hoe.
•    Determining the cause of technical problems to propose and execute preventive and predictive maintenance and system upgrades.
•    Read and interpret blueprints and technical manuals to aid in problem solving. 
•    Maintain appropriate spare parts inventories and create/process purchase orders (POs) and invoices.
•    Using power tools such as table saw, power drills, jack hammers, power augers, volts meters.
•    Proposing and executing preventive and predictive maintenance and system upgrades.

Primary Responsibilities
•    Perform water treatment tasks including testing samples, well checks, Reverse Osmosis inspection and service. 
•    Maintain water pumps and motor checks at Vehicle Dynamics Area, multiple facility ponds, Glass Plate and other testing surfaces, Water Jet cutter facility, and more. 
•    Perform preventive and predictive maintenance which may include, but is not limited to, HVAC systems and cooling towers, chlorinators at potable wells, air compressors, and pumps and motors at various test sites.    
•    Operate heavy equipment used to make repairs to multiple types of testing and non-testing surfaces including dirt roads, grass pads, mud bins, etc.
•    Perform building maintenance, such as installing flush valves, laying of tile, sheet rocking, taping and floating, and painting. 

  • Other tasks may include items such as installing or replacing water heaters, drinking fountain installation, minor electrical wiring installation, replacing electric motors and pumps, and placing concrete and asphalt.  

•    Cutting grass and or trimming trees to include the use of weed eaters and chain saws. Animal and insect removal and control.   
 

Required Education and Experience 
•    High School diploma or GED required.

  • Associates degree in STEM related field and/or professional certification desired.  

•    1+ years of experience working in a maintenance role.
•    Experience with maintenance of buildings and building systems.
•    Experience with well water systems, desired.  

 

Skills and Abilities
•    Knowledge/skill in trade such as HVAC, Plumbing, Electrical, Heavy Equipment, etc. 
•    Basic computer skills (including Microsoft Word and Excel).
•    Attention to detail.
•    Organizational and time management skills.
•    Good communication and interpersonal skills.
•    Mechanical and/or chemical aptitude.
•    Ability to perform a variety of manual tasks for extended periods of time.
•    Valid driver's license.
