About the Position
This position is located at the Goodyear Proving Grounds in San Angelo, Texas, and is responsible for providing technical and engineering expertise in support of both daily operations and the development and implementation of future capabilities and technologies.

The work will vary from day to day and may include but not be limited to: monitoring, maintaining, troubleshooting, and improving test equipment and data acquisition systems to meet performance targets and changing customer needs; providing technical support to Testing Operations, Quality, and Calibrations teams; and supporting the collaborative development and implementation of new test procedures, test hardware, and facilities to fulfill proving grounds objectives and close capability gaps. The incumbent may provide mentoring and training for less experienced associates.
Primary Responsibilities
TESTING SUPPORT AND TROUBLESHOOTING:
- Develop strong technical understanding of Goodyear test procedures, equipment, data acquisition, and surfaces.
- Diagnose test system issues (mechanical, electrical, software, etc.), identify root causes, and implement solutions to restore testing capability.
- Troubleshoot process or data quality issues with the operators, including database interactions like SQL.
- Gain working knowledge of support functions like calibrations, quality, and safety.
CONTINUOUS IMPROVEMENT AND PROJECT MANAGEMENT:
- Support the creation and implementation of next generation data acquisition, analysis, and reporting programs.
- Update and improve existing data acquisition and analysis programs written in VBA, C++, Labview, etc.
- Lead assigned capital projects or participate as a technical expert on related capital project teams.
EQUIPMENT AND PROCESS OWNERSHIP:
- Monitor and assess testing equipment, data systems, and software to see trends in efficiency, data quality, or uptime.
- Help inform the site's 5-year capital plan by forecasting equipment and system upgrades based on technical assessments.
- Participate in safety, quality, or process improvement activities as technical expert or owner.
Required Education and Experience
- B.S. degree in relevant STEM field and 4+ years of relevant work experience.
- Mechanical or Electrical Engineering degree preferred.
- Experience or certifications in Lean, Six Sigma, Project Management, or general programming, desired.
- Product performance testing experience, tire testing experience preferred.
- Demonstrated ability to understand and troubleshoot equipment failures, data issues, and process problems.
- Demonstrated ability to effectively lead multiple projects simultaneously.
- Experience working in a technical team with engineers, technicians, etc.
Skills and Abilities
- Attention to detail and effective time management and organizational skills.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills including technical writing and presentations.
- Strong troubleshooting, reverse engineering, and problem-solving skills developed through a variety of experience.
- Relevant programming skills to support systems (like VBA, C++), automation (like Python, LabView) and database interactions (SQL).
- Working knowledge of electronics and instrumentation (troubleshoot hardware failures, understand analog and digital I/O, configure program interfaces to load cells, encoders, etc.).
