Primary Purpose of the Position

The Accountant II - Payroll is responsible for the accuracy/timeliness of daily payroll transactional input for salaried exempt, non-exempt and hourly associates across multiple pay groups and payroll system distributions with weekly, bi-weekly, semi-monthly and monthly pay frequencies. This position will provide daily oversight, direction and quality control over payroll transactions. The incumbent will provide input and actively engage with plants, stores, corporate Human Resource Business Partners (HRBPs) and a 3rd party payroll service provider to quickly research/resolve issues with payroll transactional input. He/She will research and resolve problematic payroll issues. This role will process off-cycle payments - Reviewing the reasons why this occurs to see if it can be prevented in the future. The associate will provide oversight/direction regarding the processing of high visibility (e.g., bonus, executive compensation) off-cycle payments. In addition, the Accountant II - Payroll will provides mass load tool (MLT) training to all permanent/contracted Payroll Processing Technicians. This position is responsible for payroll processing optimization. The incumbent will assist the Senior Payroll Manager/Payroll Manager in researching and resolving complex pay inquiries.  

 

 

Primary Duties and Responsibilities 

45% Daily oversight, direction and quality control regarding payroll transaction inputs.
Process off-cycle payments using mass load tool (MLT).
Identify/Initiate process improvements. 

 

45% Research/Resolve complex pay inquiries and management requests for payroll response. 
Root cause analysis - Finding the solution and implementing a fix so the problem does not reoccur.
Research/Resolve problematic payroll issues.
Run/Review any reports needed for service-level agreements (SLAs) - Work with management to align with provider.

 

10% Provide payroll processing training and perform business process optimization.
Reviewing the reasons why this occurs and to see if it can be prevented in the future.
Train new employees.

 

 

Education and Certification

  • Bachelors degree in Business, Accounting, Finance or a related field (required).

 

 

Experience

  • 1 or more years of experience in Accounting, Business or Finance
  •  Payroll experience with a large company (desired).

 

 

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Attention to detail.
  • Knowledge of applications and systems: Microsoft Office (especially Excel, Word, PowerPoint) and  Workday (Report Writer).
  • Well developed analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Interpersonal skills that establish/maintain excellent relationships and credibility quickly.
  • Ability to support accounting/finance decisions with logical evidence and persuasively present position.
  • Ability to communicate or present information (verbal/written) effectively with all levels of the organization.
