Primary Purpose of the position:

  • Goodyear is looking for a forward-thinking, creative user-centered designer to support its innovation strategy. This role is based in Shanghai and will help position Goodyear at the forefront of key trends that are shaping the automotive industry
  • Goodyear is spearheading its local innovation efforts with a cross-functional team of engineers, scientists, new venture specialists and designers to help shape new mobility and digital solutions in this market
  • The User-centered designer will provide teams deep customer insights, understanding of technology applications and the creation of value through new concepts for products and services for future mobility



  • Frame and initiate new projects by researching market trends, hypothesizing user needs and considering stakeholder objectives
  • Conduct ethnography, focus groups, behavioral prototyping and other consumer insights collection related activities
  • Ability to bring lots of data from research into frameworks that explain customer’s activities, jobs to be done, behavior, insights, etc
  • Facilitate ideation to explore new opportunities (tools (electronic, brainstorm sessions, awake resident tacit knowledge), internal and external)
  • Design user experiments and develop hands-on prototypes to validate research findings



  • Bachelor's degree in science, engineering, design or business
  • 5+ years’ experience in user insight and innovation with a proven portfolio of projects of products or services in a fast moving consumers good, pharmaceutical, electronic or IT company (experience may be within a firm, consultancy or via entrepreneurship)
  • Primary Research (ethnography, intercept, in person etc.) and secondary research    
  • Behavioral prototyping, design analysis and synthesis – integrating quantitative and qualitative research across industries, such as mobility, technology, retail, entertainment, or others
  • Fluent in both Chinese and English; able to communicate new concepts with ease; ability to use digital, video and physical for presentation of findings
  • Group ideation and facilitation
  • Ability to travel at least 25% of the time
