Lead Engineer Analytical Science GTCK

The Lead Engineer - Analytical Science Kunshan leads the analytical team based in GTCK. This is a new position in the organization established due to business intention to bring leadership element to the team in Kunshan. Incumbent will be a linking pin between two locations Luxembourg and Kunshan. On regular basis Lead Engineer will be in touch with Chief Engineer based in Luxembourg.

From technical perspective incumbent in this role will add critical knowledge and practice considering cromatography methodology. This is a critical capability, that needs to be build within the team in Kunshan from business point of view. 

The main accountabilities of the role are as following:

- Lead a team in charge of characterization of tire raw materials and cured rubber compounds using modern analytical methods;

- Communication to customers;

- Development of new methods;

- Operations' overview.

 

Responsibilities

1. Leading the team

Perform leadership activities such as: execution of performance management process; execution of strategic hiring decisions and team's attrition management, associates' development (to coach, mentor, and empower team members to grow) and performance improvement plans if required, as well as disciplinary actions; communication and enforcement of policies & procedures to the team while fostering relations with customers; cooperation with outsource partners, and cross functional associates' relations. 
Administration of the Performance Management System and time management tool for direct reports.
Application of all human resource policies and procedures in fair and equal manner. 

2. Communication to customers

Ensure communication to internal customers (Quality, Technology and Product development teams and leaders) on advancements in Analytical Science Operations: status of their requests, hurdles, delays, new developments etc. Participate to meetings to explain obtained results and ensure good comprehension of the obtained results by internal customers.

3. Development of new methods

Drive technology advancement for Analytical Science methods for Asia Pacific region to address needs of product and technology development and manufacturing, as requested by GRMDA and Compounding teams. In details:
- Assess new material testing technologies and recommend procurement of new laboratory assets;

- Lead the development of Chromatography methods in the laboratory;

- Develop new chemical analysis methods for materials characterization;

- Apply problem solving and analytical skills for compound reformulation, competitors' analyses, or plant problems.

4. Operations
Reporting of observations / conclusions of analyses in comprehensive reports and presentations. Apply lean principles like visually managing WIP and Cycle time bottlenecks. Oversee the documentation of technical knowledge and test standards for Analytical Science Luxembourg. Ensure global collaboration and execution within the department of best-practices and standardization for analysis work and report issuing.
Ensure safe, efficient and effective operation of Analytical Science Kunshan team and labs. Inspire and cultivate a ‘No One Gets Hurt’ Safety culture. 

 

Qualifications:

1. Bachelor's degree or above in Chemistry or Analytical Science

2. 4-6 years or more working experience

3. Practical competencies in material/goods characterization using classical chemical analysis methods are required

4. Demonstrated ability to solve problems in systematic manner

5. Ability to work in interdisciplinary teams in an international environment

6. Interpersonal skills and effective communication on all organizational levels
