PRIMARY PURPOSE OF THE POSITION

The Database Systems Administrator position is technical work related to the administration of all computerized database management systems, data resources residing in those systems and the facilitation of data sharing among users. Work in this area involves the use of database software packages to ensure data integrity, consistency, security, recovery, database space management, and database schema management. This incumbent has experienced knowledge of database systems that will allow this individual to serve as an independent team member. This incumbent will be required to handle difficult problems with little assistance.

The primary focus for this role will be with the administration of Oracle and SQL Server databases

PRIMARY DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES

• Performs timely response and resolution to requests and incidents raised through various channels of support including but not limited to ticketing systems, email, chat, in-person, phone, etc.  Ability to perform remote troubleshooting and provide clear instructions.  Follow through to resolution, or escalation to appropriate team, while maintaining appropriate documentation requirements
• Administers, maintains  and monitors Database systems running in both the data center and our plant environments.  Maintains maximum availability of mission critical databases around the globe and ensures availability and accessibility
• Monitor to maintain database performance (availability, utilization, throughput, and uptime), while testing for weaknesses or vulnerabilities to ensure database security, stability and availability.  Conduct analysis reporting, performance tuning and troubleshooting in coordination with internal and external escalation points
• Works with application teams by providing references and support to leverage best practices within our environment.  Contribute to and maintain system standards
• Flexibility in work schedules, including evening, weekend, holiday and rotating shift requirements.  Ability to run breakfix incident resolutions that may have on-call requirements.

QUALIFICATIONS

• At least 1 Recognized IT Certification, ITIL Training (Preferred)                                                                                                                      

2-3 years of experience with the following:

• Manages and maintains Oracle/SQL Server environment including monitoring, maintenance, and troubleshooting
• Manages and maintains database backup software
• Advanced knowledge of Linux/Windows operating systems
• Demonstrated successful experience in developing efficient and effective solutions to business problems
• Good understanding of middleware standards
• Good understanding of networking technology and protocols
• Proven experience in a database administrator role. Excellent knowledge of best practices around management, control, and monitoring of database environments.  Great at organizing, prioritizing and multitasking.  Exhibit enthusiasm, patience and attention to detail.  Excellent customer service engagement.

Operations and Support:

• Will be required to support enterprise-wide, mission-critical databases with little support or assistance.
• Will be involved with the planning, installation, implementation and configuration of company databases. Incumbent will be required to write necessary procedures and develop standards that will make these systems available 24*7.
• Will be required to participate in 24*7 on call support of company databases.
• Will analyze and participate in the security and data integrity controls for all of the computerized database resources.
• Will participate in the analysis and design function for new and existing systems to ensure adherence to technical standards, data standards and integration with other applications.
• Will be involved with the planning and implementation of database backup and recovery procedures.

Business Interactions:

• Will be required to translate business requirements into technical requirements.
• May be involved with the planning, design and implementation of databases on a variety of platforms.
• May participate in the planning, acquisition, and implementation of systems and application software.
