About the Position:

The Quality Engineer conducts research, analysis, and experimentation on compounds and raw materials, for such purposes as product and process development and application, quantitative and qualitative analysis, and improvement of analytical methodologies. This position is responsible for supporting manufacturing process and product quality by learning and applying appropriate Goodyear standards and procedures to solve problems.  The incumbent understands and can apply standard tools to improve customer satisfaction and process capability.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Monitors the quality of rubber compounds, calendared components, and raw material
  • Conducts processing trials at mixers, extruders, calendars, tire building machines, or curing presses
  • Conducts evaluations of new raw materials
  • Suggests and/or implements new processes to improve manufacturing operations
  • Prepares standards and specifications for processes, facilities, products, and tests
  • Utilize and apply understanding of suppliers and Customer requirements (internal and external) relevant to specific manufacturing processes
  • Improve and enhance known technical solutions to meet product and process requirements
  • Lead improvements and develop processes within relevant quality guidelines and standards using appropriate quality engineering tools
  • Participate in Plant Optimization to deploy standards and to drive improvement.
  • Recognize and identify problems, achieve solutions with appropriate tools and methods that deliver defined objectives which meet business needs
  • Support the implementation of new products / processes / technologies, utilizing applicable Quality engineering tools
  • Responsible for the creation and maintenance of Product and Process technical specifications to ensure compliance with requirements
  • Audit for compliance and drive effective root-cause analysis and corrective action implementation


Education:

  • Bachelors degree in Science/Technology/Engineering/Math required
  • Experience or certifications in the application of Quality control systems, problem solving and project management tools preferred

 

Experience:

  • 2 + years of experience required
  • Experience or certifications in the application of Quality control systems, problem solving and project management tools desired
  • Demonstrated ability to teach and apply systematic problem-solving tools and techniques
  • Demonstrated ability to understand and troubleshoot equipment and process problems
  • Demonstrated ability to apply new tools and techniques to improve existing processes
  • Project management experience
  • Rubber & plastic processing or compounding experience preferred
  • Mixing / Tire experience preferred
  • Manufacturing environment familiarity preferred
